I've done the same, but with most new stereos there are two power leads - one for battery (always on) and the other for ignition. I've routed the ignition side through a rocker switch so that I can "turn off" the stereo when I want to.

John,
Here is one very successful installation. Driven by the fact that the radio was about the only thing that didn't work when I bought the coach.

This is a picture of the speaker installation:
<http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=35249&title=where-i-put-new-speake&cat=5561>
(You are sitting on the step and have cranked your head WAY BACK.)

The Speakers are top of the line Pioneer 4*6 triaxial and are so close coupled to your head that the bass response is pretty good (it could be better, but I haven't worked on that). I don't know if those speakers are even still available.

Where they are mounted, it does not take much drive to make music enjoyable when underway and that level does not interfere with conversation or hearing other things that might be of interest.

The original installation just replaced the original speakers with very good 4" coax. What a waste of time that was. There was no way for either occupant to hear both channels unless it was so load that it drowned out the engine and road noise. I thought the problem was the speakers, so I bought the first pair - it was a little better, but the lights were gone and there was still no stereo. So - Scored another pair of the same speakers and a new light. I did have to cut into the overhead panel to mount the inboard pair, but it was no museum piece to start with.

You may notice the remote that is Velcroed to the overhead in easy reach of the copilot.

The stereo is a DIN 1 mount where the original was removed, just like Gene's - not a tough job. Running the wires for the speakers was a pain, but very worth the effort.

The stereo is Pioneer 50watts*4 channel and plenty of power. It has been rerouted to the house bank just because I am paranoid (but I find that severs me well in many cases.

I believe I can plug an Ipod sort of thing into it, but I don't have one, so I'm not sure where or how. What I do all the time is make up juke-box CDs. This is content dependent, but fitting 8~10 CDs worth of *.wma on a single disk makes for good road music. You should be able to do more as *.mp3

I think I answered all the questions in your original post, but if I did not, I will try again.

Hope this is a help.

Matt
