Mike Miller,

You suggested tha olive oil may be used to rejuvenate the waste pipe seal in the Thetford toilet.
Questions:

How do you apply the oil/?
Must the seal be completly dry before application?

Should one use only Extra Virgin Olive Oll as Rachel Ray always specifys for her recipes?

I used what ever wife had next to the stove.

The seal was sticky and didn't quite seal. I poured a small amount on the flap and worked the petals until it closed easily.

I then put some olive oil on a paper towel and pushed it into the bottom of the dry toilet for storage. It worked fine for one season. I Have not checked it in the last two years... but should. (I have been using the other coach.)

An excellent rubber lubricant is Ru-GLYDE, We used it for lubricating
rubber seals when rebuilding wheel, master & clutch cylinders. Most tire
shops use it for wheel & tire mounting. I bought a gallon at the NAPA
store.

Part number 765-1338.

I think it's around $12.

Take the part number because they couldn't the item or the part. It is
listed in their computer system at the tire mounting section. They mostly
sell it in 55 gallon drums.

Good Luck,

The problem here is not one of stickiness or lubriction. The blade moves freely and fully into the rubber groove. It just doesn't seal.

I scraped the groove as David Greenberg suggested. It was and still is clean.

I need something that will swell the rubber seal. The olive oil probably wont do that.

Any other suggestions?

I'm NOT taking the toilet apart!!!

you may have to. there is a re-build kit available but i found that the under side housing is held together with plain steel screws and they would break off when trying to loosen them.
real pain in the butt, if you know what i mean.

Perhaps a different grip on the screwdriver would be less painful?

Seriously,
I had this same problem and after wrestling with the darn thing, I
just decided that maybe it was time for a new unit that I could keep
new with proper care.

SInce I believe you are only hoping to get the seal to work until the coach is delivered in NY -- you might fill the seat with grease -- petroleum jelly -- and get the bowl to hold water.

Gene and others,

Lisa has called around and surfed the net. Parts for the Aurora are not readily available (even though some places list them) so, aghast, Lisa has been let loose to purchase whatever she wants for a new head. Hopefully, it will be here when the coach arrives. I think she is anxious to use the coach and wants everything to work, especially the plumbing Razz since she is hooked to her IV all night and can not stray too far when nature calls.
