This camper appeared at the Grand Marais MN campground yesterday then left today before I had a chance to visit with the occupants.

A brief Google search turned up no info related to an "Elandan" on a GMC chassis.

Can anybody provide some background about this motorhome?

They were made by Winnebago in the 80's Not on a TZE chassis.

Image didn't come through to mailing list. It's at
http://gmc.mybirdfeeder.net/GMCforum/index.php?t=msg&th=13187&start=0&rid=0

I'm not a pro, but I've looked at a lot of these while shopping. You
sure it's based on a GMC? The front wheels look like a 5-bolt pattern
and the windows all look different.

I do love looking at pictures of interesting coaches, though.

Elandan was a Winnebago product, at least in 1987.
Found a 7/20 Craigslist posting of one for sale on Google
I expect there are more to be found.

It would appear that the pictured Elandan
coach has been modified to add a tag axle!

Other Elandan pics I found on Craigslist
only show one rear wheel.

From what I understand, the Elandan was designed by Winnebago as a sort of copycat to the GMC to fill the void left by the end of TZE production. As far as Winnebago's go, the Elandan's are the best looking coaches they ever made, in my opinion, and that includes the new ones. New coaches all look like a big square brick with wheels.

Yes, they all wanted to "look" like the GMC and the Elandon dod that but make no
mistake it was still a log truck from the bottom!  It rocks and rolls down the
road, bumps around on the back bed and sounds like a truck-- they were nice but
they are NOT a GMC

I wouldn't be surprised if someone added a tag. My nephew had one of these & at highway speeds over whoop-de-whoops such as at a bridge approach, the front wheels would bounce off the road. Too much heavy rear overhang.

I think these are the best looking of the Winnebagos second is the Elandan on what it think was a P-30 chassis. The longer ones may have come with a tag axle just like their other models on P-30 chassis did.

Weren't they called a Spectrum[s]? Special Interest Vehicles still has a couple. Ford gas pushers & a diesel. Somebody on here traded a GMC for one many months ago.  http://www.special-interest-veh.com/page_1.html
