I just received my 6 month premium from State Farm for my motorhome ($325/6 months), and was doing some comparison shopping. The collector car insurer, Leland-West, also will insure vintage motorhomes (I found out aabout a month ago), and their rates are much more competitive for a limited use, agreed value policy (I specified 3000 miles/year).

Has anyone used these policies and had any experiences? Since my motorhome is sitting in the driveway much more than it is on the road these days, I thought this may be a reasonable way to insure my motorhome. I'm also not sure if the State Farm policy is Stated value or Agreed Value (but I will certainly find out before renewing my policy).

George:

Jim Bounds reccomends:

Miller Insurance
Cheryl or Marlene
800-622-6347

I called them this week - reasonable rates on "fixed value" policies ...

George,

On my policy (J.C.Taylor) and I would think all collector car insurers, they
do ask for estimated annual mileage. I believe on top of that you can
contact your agent or insurance company directly and advise them that you
are attending a meet/rally/convention in addition to the 3,000 stated use
miles. And then there are the required trips for specialized maintenance
and repair - to Jim. K., Jim B., K. Frey and points in between.

Could be a great deal. Especially considering the praked time vs. in
service time.

George, I have thought about that. I have Hagerty on my Mustang but it must be in a locked garage at night. I have no garage for GMC but it might not be required on the coach. The annual mileage on my Mustang is 7500. We do more than that sometimes on the GMC in a year, most times. If they would bump it up to 10,000 I could make it. I may check with them myself as my Progressive is coming due in Oct.

I just got off the phone with Leland-West and they said they wouldn't insure any motorhome, so I guess the search for a classic car insurer that covers GMC's is still on.

I think I would want Agreed value, not Stated value

Actually, I don't really care because the value is so low. But I would like to get collector insurance since it is a prerequisite for an emissions exemption in AZ.

Call Progressive. I pay a little over $300. a year. I have regular plates and drop the coverage after football season is over. I get a reduction for that period.
