Due to a rear tire blow out, I am buying 2 new V-Steel tires ... which I
will put on the front.
I will be shuffling around the remaining 4 tires which still have over 1/2
of their tread left... and got to thinking... which of the rear axles
sees the most load and wear?
I am pretty good about rotating my tires ... just want to start off again
with the best 2 in the best possible locations.
Any thoughts?
Thanks...

Interesting question Bruce. I've never even remotely come close to wearing out a set of tires on my coach, but have seen wear on some of my friends' coaches. They seem to have what I call abnormal wear on the front or middle bogies. I assume it is due to misalignment, worn pins, brake lock-up, etc. I wouldn't necessarily say they are worn in the traditional sense, but worn to the point that they need replacement. I have no doubt the leading arms are contributers.

IIRC
I thought someone was coleecting data that suggested the forward rear
passenger tire was leading the pack for tire failure.

""Having put on several sets of tires over the 29 years that I have owned the GMC, I feel that the most wear is on the front tires, followed by the mid tires and the least wear on the rearmost tires.

I think that makes sense. I can see we can start to talk apples and oranges quickly on this one. For example normal tread wear VS abnormal tread wear or damage.

I recently had one of my four year old, PO installed Kumho tires separate. Fortunately it did NOT come apart but I had been noticing a vibration that made my table shake just a little. It happened on the way home from a Saguaro Jetset rally in April, and when we got home, I discovered the right middle tire was very low (20 psi.). I went to put some air in it and found that it was leaking out a pin hole in the sidewall and had a noticeable bubble in the tread. I don't think it had a leak before that as it had been fully inflated to 60 psi before we left home and was fine when we left the rally (Bisbee) as well.
I'm guessing the separation caused the leak and not the other way around. Anyway, it WAS that passenger side forward rear. It seems to be the one that takes the most abuse.

Good point Emery, I stand corrected - after all. I have been purchasing
tires for my GMC - since... last year (newbie). lol With front wheel drive
and the coach weight shifting forward on braking, the fronts would get the
most wear. So, if still serviceable, would you rotate the front tires to
center or rear? Or put them in the spare pile?

I put quite a bit of miles on each year. So, I usually have been able to just buy 2 tires at a time. I put the new ones on the front and move the front to the middle and the middle to the rear and throw away the two rear ones.
Sometimes I have bought 4 new tires and put the two used ones on the rear most wheels.

I ordered six tires on line and non-centered Eagles from Jim K. I requested
fresh date coded tires in the remarks section. I got 2 tires from '09 and 4
from '08 That was 8 months ago.
I guess I should make sure the oldest are on the two rear axles. I hope to
do the two new every year or so at some point. So much easier on the Visa
card.

RE: Alebamy Tarr Warr
My first GMC was a '73 and I still have a '78 Eleganza II ~
I seldom have had a tire problem on the road
since the 875 X 16.5 D Weak Sidewalled Dinosaurs ~
I now purchase 2 New Tires every 2 years and the Hands Down Favorite
is the BFGoodrich Commercial T/A All Season 225/75R/16E ~
My Tire Rotation Is As Follows;
A - The New Tires are placed on the Front ~
B - The 2 year old Front Tires are moved To The Rear ~
C - The 4 year old Rear Tires are moved To The Center ~
D ~ The Best Remaining Center Tire To The Spare -
E - The remaining Tire is kept as a backup -
and the olde tyres are donated
{ usually to a dumb yankee that is driving SOB !
hoppy trails to you-all
ps
~ jist a note `~
It was on a friday in 100 degree August some years ago
and we were just north of Moulton Al on hwy 157 when
the sidewalls ofmy 875X16.5 D Tires began to BLISTER -
I was having difficulty locating tires via phone
but located Six Tires at Sam's Club in Florence Al ~
Surprisingly all of the tires stayed inflated,
{the side walls were flapping in the wind}, as we slowly
proceeded to the Sam's Club.
The shortest route was across Wheeler Dam at 10 MPH
with over 50 vehicles honking behind us -
We had 6 new 875X16,6 D tires installed and balanced
Then They Wanted A $10.00 per tire disposal fee !
{ANOTHER $60.00 ? No Way}}
I purchased some Nylon Clothesline {for 89 cents}
And Tied 6 Tires To The Rear Of My GMC ~
The tires didn't look too bad with the good side facing out
and the flapping sidwalls Facing In ~
Two Nights Later We Attended A Concert In Owensboro Kentucky
and while at that concert SOMEBODY Cut The Clothesline
And STOLE ALL SIX BAD TIRES !
IT was HARD but I managed To Keep A Straight Face
When I Was Making The Police Report that night
BUT The Next Morning
When I Thought About Those Guys Inspecting Their Tire Bonanza
And Then Seeing The Other Sidewall Of Those Tires
I Reeled With Laughter Realizing That I Had Saved $59.00 !
{$60.00 less the 89 cent + tax clothline}

With 16.5" tires disappearing rapidly, I'm willing to bet lunch that there is no general agreements of brand on that size. Lunch site TBD.
Change to 16" and get many more choices; from Chinese-made to (even) American made.
