Just spoke on the phone with Bill McFee...he found me on the black list.
His coach works fine on level ground but loses power and will not pull a hill. He does not have a stock fuel system. My mechanic is out of state, not able to help. His coach is at a relatives place.
If anyone is able to contribute their knowledge to his situation he can be reached at 704-968-3009 and his email is 2MCS4U@earthlink.net

Post now says Mansfield ,got it. I'm only about an hour away if he needs an extra hand. Just revamped the fuel system on mine. Did he mention if he was running a EFI or is it still carbureted?
From your description it sounds like some type of fuel starvation or possibly a badly plugged up muffler.

fuel starvation was my first thought also....he said that the fuel filter is not clogged and that fuel seemed to be flowing...didn't know if it is a efi system.......he is not technically minded and did not want or was not able to delve deep into the imposing engine compartment. He is going to call JB in Orlando tomorrow for advice.

Another easy check -- frozen distributor advance weights.

Jim Bounds suggested that the fuel filter at the carb might be clogged. He has been getting a lot of calls about this type of problem of late. Seems that the alcohol in the gas is loosening up the rust in the tanks and subsequentally(?) clogging up the filters........so Bill is going to try to find a new filter and change that today. I am going there to cheer him on and maybe provide an additional wrench.

What size wrenches are needed to change the filter at the carb?

On mine ( stock Rochester ) the fuel line is 5/8" and the filter housing on the carb is 1". I've seen some though where the filter housing is smaller ,7/8" I think.

Eddie Pettit wrote on Mon, 02 August 2010 17:39 | I also find it necessary to undo the 4 1/2" (9/16") bolts that hold the carb
to the manifold. YMMV.

Removing the 4 carb bolts only taes a minute and it sure makes it a lot easier to disconnect and reconnect the gas line on the front.
DO NOT over tighten the the carb mounting bolts as it will warp the carb base.
