Does anyone know where I can buy 3.50 or 3.73 final drive ring and pinion gears? I have a local rebuilder to do the job for us, but I need to find the gears.

Thanks for the sources. I saw the Applied GMC final drive, and it looked to be the entire assembly. We are just looking for the parts, ring, Pinion, bearings and seals. I wil call both today.

We appreciate the help

Pete,

First off, there are no 3.50 or 3.73 gears: Perhaps you're referring to the
3.07 standard GMC or the 2.73 Eldorado gear sets?

None of the currently manufactured higher ratio gear sets are available
anywhere except from Applied GMC (or one of his vendors). I don't know
whether he'll sell them un-assembled or not. Frankly, I wouldn't buy them
from any where else because even with his highly experienced assembler, he
occasionally has to replace a noisy one under warranty -- which he does very
graciously. He could not do that if someone else did the assembly.

Used 3.07's should be fairly readily available. Where are you located?

i have to go along with Ken on this. i had a 3.55 installed by a GMC shop. it was noisy as hell. he said drive it and see if it does better. it didn't so i went back the next year and he took it apart and found the spider gear thrust washer was gone. he changed the housing and put the same ring gear parts in it with all new bearings. it was still just as noisy. he said the wear pattern on the gears looked correct. i went ahead and drove it.

the next year i called Jim K., who had supplied the gears, and he sent a whole assembly down and i had it changed out. quiet as a mouse now. Jim said it is really hard to get the gears set just right on these.

You are not saving any money by having someone else build up the gear
assembly. Buy them from Jim K. and you get the warrantee. Buy them
and have them installed by a non approved assembler and you have no
warrantee. Jim replaced mine no questions ask and even paid to have
them R&R'd.
