What fabrics have others used to make outside windshield covers? I'd
like to be able to see outside but have some privacy. And does anybody
have yardage requirements?
Also, I'd like to find some upholstery fabric to match my tan Odyssey
seats. Anybody have a source?
I appreciate your input.

Margie,
I am in the process of making a set of front covers from Technalon II. It
was originally made for classic/antique car covers. It is relatively easy
to work with and very soft - will not scratch. I believe it can be sewn on
a standard home machine. I'm making mine in dove grey - because I have a
roll of it. I think it is also available in blue and a yellow-gold color.
I have seen other covers made using felt backed vinyl as that will not
scratch either. I'm not sure how well the felt backed will hold up to the
weather. Sunbrella is an excellent exterior fabric, just a little stiff in
my opinion. It is used on better patio umbrellas and countless marine
applications - covers, dock boxes etc..
There are also lots of marine grade upholstery vinyls available. If you're
going the vinyl route, I would highly recommend a fabric know as "Artic".
It was developed originally for snow mobiles and then wave runners. It will
not crack or get brittle at extremely low temperatures and holds up very
well to heat.
If you want a sample of the technalon PM me.
That's all I can remember...

Most trim & upholstery shops buy from this company when they need exact
matches - Edward B. De Leo Co.
http://www.deleoco.com/ebdl/index.php?page=home
They use to sell only to the trade, I understand they have relaxed that and
sell to consumers. They would sell pieces as small as a sq. ft. Used for
repairing seats arm rest etc.
They have also been around a long time. They sell a sample book ,but I
think it's close to $100. It is sold by model year and covers all models.
Just another option

I used bulk fabric from Cooleroo.
http://shop.sportsmansguide.com/net/cb/cb.aspx?a=619955
they are sold on a roll, the measurements are 15' x 6'.
when I bought my material, it was $30 a roll.
I used one roll for the front and one roll for both sides and I think I have enough for the rear.
I used newspaper and cut and taped it to make a pattern that fit half the windshield.
I folded the 15x6 fabric in half longways.
I placed the pattern on the fabric, the middle end of the paper pattern at the fold of the fabric.
I cut 3" out ( of the pattern edge out 3" ) from the sides and bottom and 4 inches out ( of the pattern edge ) at the top.
Now you need to sew a 1/4" line, into the top, takes about 1 1/2 inch of fabric to fold over and sew in. leave a couple feet of line loose at both ends.
Now sew a 1/4" line in along the bottom edge, again it will take about 1 1/2" of fabric to sew in the line. leave about 3 1/2 foot loose at each end.
Sew the ends in a similar fashion but don't sew in any line
You will need to drill a small hole in the gutter so you can attach a hook, or snap, this is where the top line will tie on to. the fabric will cover the SMC body above the windshild.
Use bungie to hold the bottom line and attach to the frame underneath. Do this on both sides.
tuck the lower edge of the fabric on the windshield under the wiper blades.
You won't need any snaps to hold this on.
LarC ( and to think I did the sewing myself too. )

I can attest to the Sunbrella durability. I made an awning type cover over the kids swing set 8 years ago. This last winter, in 60 mph winds it finally tore where it rubbed over the center arch. I resewed a patch over it and power washed the fabric this spring. It looks brand new and is back atop the swing set. Make sure you sew with a UV protected thread and it may outlast the paint on your coach.

Yep, they snap on. I don't mind putting holes in the coach and they
don't leak. I tried Velcro on the rear window, and that didn't work at
all, even with "industrial adhesive".What's nice is that I can drive
down the road with them snapped in place (except not the windshield,
cause that would just be plain stupid).

I purchased some heavy marine grade off white vinyl and made my own windshield
and rear window covers. Made patterns out of rosin paper (available in rolls
from Home Depot, etc), bought some heavy duty nylon thread, sewed them up, put
snaps in the covers and on the coach. We love them! Once you throw the
windshield cover on there is no need for the front dash wrap around curtain or
the curtain that draws across the coach behind the rear seats, it gives us great
privacy.
When you trace the window frames, add 3" all the way around. That allows 1 1/2"
for a fold over edge and then the cover extends 1 1/2" past the edge of the
windows for the snaps.
Very easy to make in my opinion.......my wife did laugh at me as I was cussing
at the sewing machine which was too light duty, but I got through it ok.
The wife wanted one on the back just for some added privacy and darkness for
sleeping.
Total cost for the two windows was about $55.
