Ken,
Thanks for the invitation. We have plans for this weekend and can't come. Plus sounds like you have too much work going on with your battery replacements. I don't understand your battery problems. I switched from Sears to Walmart a while back because it is easier to find Walmarts than Sears and haven't had any battery problems.

We will be here for an extended period while my wife looks after her parents. Great thing about my job is I can live anywhere in US and difference in plane fares isn't great enough to get anyone upset. Tickets from Portland to LA are usually about the same as tickets from Atlanta to LA. (Typical job requires travel on short notice so no 14 day advance purchase.)

Once I lubricate the GMC centrifugal advance, I will take the GMC out on a hot day to verify I don't have a vapor lock problem.
Jim

Too bad you're committed. The invitation's always open -- I don't work on
an fixed schedule and now that the kitchen's finished, don't have anything
else I've GOT to do.

I've previously had good luck with WalMart batteries for many years; I think
this is just one of those "will happen" failures. Certainly no hassle
getting the replacement so soon into the 3 years free period.

There are at least two Mr. Gasket kits for the Quadrajet, a 1/4" and a 1/2."
I suppose bigger is better if it fits.If it doesn't you could just leave out
a layer or two. $17 at Summit.

"

Watch the clearance to the underside of the engine cover. i suspect a lot of loose Qjets get help from rubbing on the hatch.
