I am having to pull the flywheel off and can a two bolt puller pull the flywheel. I will have to tape out the holes since the threads have been stripped out. Is that normal that someone has trouble and pulls the threads out. I was checkout the the RV before leaving tomorrow to go to TN for a week next week. I need the generator since it will be more than two riding and my dash air does not work very good.

Art,

Why must you pull the flywheel? If to replace the oil seal, I don't know
any alternative. But if you suspect trouble with the flywheel alternator,
the suggestion I just send to Bob Heller may be a quicker, "let's leave
tomorrow", solution: Connect a 12 vac output transformer to the 120 vac
output of the generator as a substitute for the flywheel alternator. That
can be a permanent solution. Even a "wall wart" would do since all it's
driving is K2 relay.

Art,

A good two bolt puller should do it.
Yes, clear drill and re-tap the holes. Drill to full depth and tap as far as you can. You may need it all.
People that don't have any finesse strip those holes all the time. A common way to
Use Gr. 8 bolts with the puller. Softer may stretch a that may fail the thread in the flywheel.
You may need a brass or lead hammer.
When the puller gets tight, give the flywheel a rap on the ring gear about 45* from the crank shaft, rap the puller screw and try to tighten again.
After the third try with no gain - STOP.
Take the plugs out so you can turn the flywheel easily.
Get a torch or heat gun and warm the hub of the flywheel evenly (that is why you took the plugs out) - too hot to touch but not sizzle spit - Too hot may hurt the seal.
Now try to pull again.
If between rapping and heating you don't get it loose, it may require extreme measures
Good Luck Guy
Matt

I believe the manual includes a method that doesn't require a puller. (You may want to try it before spending to much time with a tap.) I do not have the manual handy but it went something like this:

Loosen, but do not remove, the bolt/nut holding the fly wheel on. Tap on alternating sides of the flywheel with a hammer (BFH) prying on the opposite side when "tapping" may help. When (if?) it comes loose you'll know why they say not to remove the center bolt all the way. (Steering wheels can also be removed this way.)

Good luck.

Thanks. After I taped the holes I was able to get it off. I wish I had a shaft seal because it looks like it was leaking. Maybe next time. I broke the muffler bracket and will have to make a new one. I will try and make a new one, but somehow I will get it together. Any ideas as how to make one

I know they sell them but I am leaving at 7am for a trip. So I will make something to get me by until I can get a good one. I just made a pattern and will make one out of sheet metal for the time being. I could not see any place to support the muffler other making a bracket. Heading out to purchase some sheet metal.

Thanks
