A friend (really a friend this time) traveled in Nova Scotia by coach last year some time. He was a severely hassled about parking anyplace that was not an RV park.
Is this still the case in NS?
He stories are long and involved, but the best is that he was reported by some non-official person as parking overnight at a Walmart, so, the next RV park they stopped in wanted to charge them a 90$ dumping assessment. I do not have all the stories he related over several adult beverages.
At some time in the future, I would like to take my wife to Halifax, Baddeck (the Bell Museum) and Louisbourg (the Fort).

From one who lives in Nova Scotia, the WalMarts a couple of years ago were
told to prohibit overnight parking by the former Provincial
Government...this idea was to force everyone into privately owned
campgrounds....needless to say the sticky fingered disgraced politician,
Len Groucher, Minister of Tourism at the time....was removed from his
position at the next election as was the whole corrupt government..not to
say that the current is any better...but I digress......
Now it is perfectly ok to overnight at Wall Marts with the same odd
exceptions as you find in the US...some 'local' ordinances about
something....Truro being the only one I can think of.
As anywhere, at a WalMart, do your cooking and drinking indoors and don't
interfer with anyone else with your slides
Re large prices to dump...that would have been the supporters of the
Campground association who were going to teach those who did not overnight
at their place a lesson...the director of that operation has since been
replace as well. My suggestion is to try a provincial park for about $5.00
(only a guess) or plan your dumping around local's knowledge...in
Antigonish, where I live, there is a free dump behind the Ultramar Gas
station as you drive into town...the station has recently had extensive work
but they retained the dump-site as a result of local whining and
pleading...myself and others...<g>
Free parking is also available at any of the Irving Big Stops...with the
trucks, but few have dump sites...New Minas being the only exception that
comes to mind.
Booze, the stores are open 7 days a week although Sundays only noon to 5
Any other info...902 863 6949 will get my opinion on just about
anything....<VBG>

Mike,
In my years of traveling, I have come to truly appreciate a native guide (or local knowledge as it is called on water). I had not planned to get as far north as Antigonish, but there seems to be some interest here in getting to PEI. I'm not sure I want to buy the bridge fare, but I would like to see the bridge.

If you're coming by land..ie from NB, at Auluc(?) you can drive over to see
the bridge and come back. When you get to Truro, you are 1 and 1/2 hours
from us or 1 and a 1/2 hours from Halifax depending on which way you turn.
If going to Baddeck you go pass our driveway...well sort of, see the Black
List for detailed directions. Baddeck is about 1 and 1/2 hours from us..
Anything else...just ask
See ya

I tried to leave a post on the family travelling in NS, it is waiting approval, to welcome them to NS.
Incase they don't see it and for any of you thinking of visiting NS, while we have fancy campgrounds, plain campgrounds, ones for the kids (Yogi Bear Park), Federal & Provincal campgrounds, one of the tinest, but friendliest & you can camp right by the water is
King Neptune. They was a recent article in The Globe & Mail about this great family & the still family owned & run campground beside Peggy's Cove & the Swiss Air Monument.
