I'm trying to sort out how to register and move this 1975 GMC I just bought. Here are the facts:
1) It's current title and registration is in Washington state.
2) The WA registration expired in 2008.
3) It was, sometime in the past, registered in California (if that matters).
4) In order to move it, we need a valid registration.
5) WA registration is probably possible, but somewhat difficult for non WA residents.
6) In order to register it in California, it must have the VIN verified by a licensed verifier
(CA DMV, CA licensed Vehicle Verifier or Auto Club, or CA Peace Officer), but
7) It's physically located in a storage yard north of Seattle, WA.
8) In order to move it we must also have insurance, which requires a valid title and registration.
9) Both WA and CA assess penalties if you wait too long to deal with the transfer (15 to 30 days).

If we register it in WA, we'll have to re-register it as soon as it moves to CA.
I'd prefer to register it in CA and be done, but of course it's not physically here to be verified.

So, finally, my question: is there such a thing as an auto club or vehicle verifier that is located
in one state (WA) and also licensed in another (CA)?
Any other ideas for how to get the VIN verified??
