Seems there might be a conflict unless the combiner automatically detects both charging sources and picks just one of them. Still can't quite visualize the current flows that would result...

Should not be a problem. When the combiner detects charging volts on either side it closes a contact tying the two sides together. Which ever charging source has the higher voltage will pick up a higher percentage of the charging current. The relative differences will determine the percentage split. This is not a problem as with one or the other source only, that source will supply ALL the charging current. With two sources running each will supply less than the total amount.

Think CEMF. Counter electromotive force. Yes the amps know where to go. Jim

The amps go to wherever the voltage potential is lowest, and that will
always be the battery. Even if a battery attracts a surface charge enough to
show a higher voltage than one of the chargers, that charger still won't
pull current. Both chargers (the alternator and the Onan's "voltage
regulator") start with AC and therefore have diode rectifiers. The diodes
will prevent reverse current. The voltage will be very low, however--perhaps
a fraction of a volt, and then only in certain circumstances.
Rick "whose Generac inverter, PD converter/charger, and alternator seem to
all live happily together even when both combiners are engaged" Denney
