Just my two cents worth on tire lifespan with the previous discussion on
date codes and longevity.
I just my tires in to be unmounted and transferred to another set of steel
rims. Tires are 6 years old and have 7000 miles on them, and the ones that
were in the middle have almost no wear on them at all.
As soon as the guy started taking the off the rim, you could see where dry
rot was forming right at the edge of the tread on the sidewall. I never
would have seen it if the tire was mounted or full of air.
Since I've already experienced the blow out and potential blow outs, I'm
putting 6 new tires on.
Of course as with anything to do with the gmc, you can't just put tires on
without struggling with all the decisions:
Do I go to 16" wheels?
If I do, do I go ahead and by Alloys?
Can I afford this???
Am I crazy?
