I like the design of this side vent to let the heat out of the engine compartment. Anybody here know the source of this vent?

Bill;
I have been thinking of going to the "Men's Mall" to look for side vents.
I see them on all of the newer pickups and some larger trucks.
I also saw on the net some one selling new side vent.
I did not book mark the site sorry.

That is a range rover vent. You can get them online at amazon usually for $85 a set. I was planning to use them until I saw this application, and it appears that the trailing edge is not 90* to the top and bottom, so it looks "Crooked" next to that body seam...

The Escalade vent looks better.

Google "escalade fender vent". Bill, it would match up well with you're
Escalade third brake light. Just don't fall for the appliqué type. The mesh
is optional on most of the "real" vents.

I think JCWhitney carries the real thing plus the fakes. Or, try this site
and search for what you need. www.autopartswarehouse.com

Various "possibilities" on eBay:

220637612811

290454737470

320549121646

390049737249

I don't know which, if any, will actually vent engine compartment hot air.

Thanks guys, guess I'll have to do some looking around. I was disappointed to learn that most (all?) of the vents I see on e-Bay are plastic. Kinda didn't want plastic.

Hi every buddy the vents are from a range rover , It took some time to make sure that they were not installed "Crooked"
They are 4 inches down from the body molding "escalade fender vent dont work well, there not flat and dont fit the body contour ether does the ones from the F150 ford. I was going to use the metal after market ones but honestly they look better on a 18 foot Glastron Just kidding !

Anybody here know the source of this vent?

The pic says Land Rover....

The marine industry has a vent that is about 1" wide and from 6 to 12" long. Would be a long slim vent, I think it is black or white. I had see some in metal at one time, probably plastic today.

LarC ( Still not convinced to cut the body for those vents )

2006 Range Rover Sport Vent.

All of the vents used on modern cars are plastic, they are used as styling cues and serve no real purpose in actually helping reduce engine compartment temps.

To expect such a small vent to have any usefull effect on lowering engine compartment temps on a GMC Motorhome is a bit silly IMO, I would surmise that you would need an venting area at least 10 times the size of that vent to have any measurable effect.

They do look nice though! Laughing

Put a marine engine compartment blower behind that vent and you can move lots of hot air. I can turn on the fan, and actually see the water temp gauge move.

Copied URL directly from web site, sometimes that does not do the trick. www.westmarine.com and search for engine compartment blower. Mine is the axial design, and it used flexible ducting from Home Depot or Lowe's.
Remember to turn it off, if you have an engine fire.

I have the 2009 W.M. catalog here at work. There are several
options there. Also, W.M. carries various vents that could be
installed on the fenders that MIGHT be helpful even without
having a blower attached.

Any large marine supplier should have an assortment of this
stuff available. FUNCTIONAL vents are available in both
stainless steel and plastic/nylon.

I'm thinking that installing some large vents on each side of
the engine compartment and as high as can be fitted, would
help to allow more "fresh" air into and through the radiator
and other heat exchanging devices in that area!

Week-end after next, taking a little trip to a no-host rally in VA. Will stick a outside temperature sensor in the non-powered vent and see what the temps are. Plenty hot here, so should have some interesting readings. I'll let it read temps for the 125 mile trip. Report back on this. Might be interesting.

I've always remembered your vents and have planned to add that to the list
of modifications to be done.

I do have a question though, in the picture of the right hose, what is the
gauge? Fuel pressure?

Thanks.

What Bill Brown was asking for originally was the type of good looking and
functioning fender vent. Plane-Jane will do the job but without good looks.
Plastic appliquéd vents won't do the job by will provide some looks.

As to the functional Escalade vent -- it sure looks to me that the body
curvature is very close. Maybe not close enough. I seem to remember someone
having those vents on a GMC. Of course, Bill Bryant's look the best in my
book.

Regarding these "in fender" vents -- you would need a fan to move the air
away from the wheel which is also a source of heat. Sure, they don't show
externally but I'd want some empirical data that showed that they functioned
well.

With the smaller vents on the fender the marine blower makes great sense. It
also makes sense to put one blower, at a minimum, on the passenger side so
you don't melt yourself more in July at the gas station while standing on
the blacktop surface.

My two cents (which isn't even worth that much).
