Most of you don't know but Frank Condos is recovering from getting a
pacemaker installed. I understand that they met his conditions about
having the surgery accomplished while he was under one of his GMCs.
What a dedicated guy.

Frank, get well soon. I hope you get the adjustable one that they can tune
up over the phone. Mary got one yesterday, along with a new mitral valve and
bypass. Doing good.

Thanks to all that have e-mailed, called and posted.
This should pick up the pace, but probably not quite enough to keep up with Freddi. She has promised to slow down a little....sure. Recovery is quick with a few days restriction on left arm movement and weight lifting
One related GMC restriction; instructions say don't get under the hood of a car with the engine running. EMI interference but not permanent damage to the unit. I may have to set the timing with a power run.
Thanks again

Glad it all worked out so well Frank and that you'll soon be released.

With that restriction, you'll need EFI with EBL Flash so you can change the
timing on the fly! :-)

Let me know if you want me to sign you up for GMCMH-EFI.

Apparently, the strong electromagnetic field from a running
alternator or generator can put the pacemaker into causing
a more rapid heartbeat mode. In my bi-monthly telephone
checks you put a conductive wrist band on each wrist, then
put your telephone handset into a cradle on the "reader."
First, the techs at the other end take 30-60 seconds of
telemetry readings. Next, you put a pretty good-sized
"doughnut" magnet over the top of the pacemaker and the
techs take new telemetry data at the notably increased
(you feel a bit of pain) for 30-60 seconds. Last, the
techs retake 30-60 seconds of telemetry with the magnet
removed. I guess that's to check that you haven't had
any bad effects from the test.

You also need to stay clear of magnetrons!

I've had my pacemaker for three years (I think). Twice
a year, I go to my cardiologist's office and the maker
(Boston Scientific) rep runs a much more detailed diagnostic
test. They tell me that the transmitter in my upper right
cavity gets about 5% usage and the one in the lower right
barely registers any use. I guess my battery should last
a long time.

Just over 20 years for the collection I've had....started with a simple
model and as I became more dependent increased in complexity...expect about
5 years for that one Mac, and they'll up grade you to a fancier model. They
don't change batteries, they change the whole thing, and here in NS there
are two points of interest...first there is never a charge, and second the
old pacer goes to vets....I wonder if the expression, " It's a dogs life! "
is somehow connected...<VBG>

Yours may be "complex" Mike....but mines bigger!! <VBG> One cardiologist
told me mine would have cost $69 000....not sure if thats accurate or not??

Hmmmmm.

What sort of vets, Mike?

I have no dogs, so no vets for them.
I am a vet, though, 20 years worth.
Therefore, I don't know what mine cost.

Fellow here at work just had an identical
unit and leads (model numbers) installed.
Apparently they are very common. Docs
tell me that my battery consumption is
very low. My guess is that the "ticker
clicker" in my chest cavity is likely
to outlive the rest of me!

I guess I'm a "Million Dollar Man" with
all the stuff in me. Right carotid artery
stent, roto-rooted left carotid artery AND
the pacemaker.

is somehow connected...<VBG>

a more rapid heartbeat mode.

Mac

You may be approaching the value of what you have tied up in your GMC...wait
now, that would be me I'm talking about....maybe us!
I'm not sure if we're on the same page on the vet thing....I was talking
about Vet as in animal Doctor, not as in former military man <g> Used
pacemakers go to animals ie. dogs in NS, our Veterans get new shiny ones
out of the box, complete with the 30 day guarantee (Medtronics pacers)

I don't know what temps get like in the winter on OK, but don't even think
about boosting the GMC with that pacer, no matter how good the battery is...

The over riding benefit of the GMC Net is, as always the excellent information and advise we owners receive.

Steve's original post and subsequent posts from all of you has inspired me to consider adding to my signature some of the following:

Frank Condos
Medtronics 4092 lEP451827V 07/06/10
Frank's '73 Folly with a Cad heart transplant
Frank, the tin man (shirt) "If I only had a heart"
Frank 60 +/-10 BPM Condos

There must be more.
Thanks I really appreciate all the attention.
