What are people using to replace a compressor (which is toast) out of a '

Thanks for any suggestions or if someone has one for sale.......

I'm assuming you're talking about the electrolevel compressor. Those are still plentiful in the men's malls. Most uplevel GM cars of the 80's and 90's as well as minivans had them. They are very reliable so I wouldn't hesitate to pick up a salvage unit. The connectors changed over time, but that is easily adaptable.

Men's mall. Sillouette or similar GM vans with the high mounted tail lights
have a identical compressor. Need to change the mount to the GMC one and
adapt the different wiring harness plug. There are other ones out there in
GM cars and some vans.

On the minivans it is located in the rear underfloor in front of the rear bumper--those will require a chnge in the connector. On passenger cars, they are usually located in the engine compartment on the inner fender liner--usually but not always on the driver's side. Many of those will not require a connector change.

Ass-u-me-ing we are talking about compressors for the leveling system: How many compressors do you currently have? Early 1978's (Electro-Level) have one and later 1978's (Electro-Level II) have two.

The compressor from some of the GM cars are equivalent to EL II compressors.

The single EL(I) compressor needs to be a little larger and have a higher duty cycle than the smaller ones in the EL II. They pump up both airbags. Check with the Jims (JimB and JimK) for properly sized replacement.

Good point--forgot that early 78's had the previous single compressor style.

Various places depending upon model. Pontiac has it under the hatchback in
access panel along with an inflation fitting to blow up beach balls, air
mattresses etc. I robbed the whole thing for someday use for the same thing.
Chev has the compressor in one of the rear wheel wells , don't remember
which side as the donor car I robbed from was on it's top. They are all
quite visible as I recall.

I forgot to mention that some early 78s have EL I, only one compressor for
both bags. That compressor is a little more robust with a heavier duty cycle
than the EL II's are. Be selective as to which one you need.
