As part of my collecting part for a (future) major rebuild, I just bought several transfer switches from the seller of this item:

Item number: 150467714851

They have both 30 amp and 50 amp and did a nice combined deal. (One 30 and two 50's.) They asked me NOT to publish the price I paid, but I have seen a single 50 amp switch (same brand) sell, on ebay, for close to my total!

Their direct email is:

t5netsales@aol.com

I'll post my thoughts when I receive the switches. They shipped today.

Mine is a stock (I believe) '77 Palm Beach with a 6k Onan.

Does it matter which size switch I order?

This would just keep me from having to move the plug
from the Onan to shore power, is that correct
or are there other benefits?

Yes, it matters. But you have to look at the plug. If it has three wide
blades, it's 30 amp. If it has four wide blades plus a round prong, it's 50
amp.

These also provide a timer so that they won't switch over to the generator
power until about 30 seconds after it starts producing electricity. This
gives it time to warm up and stabilize before carrying a load. Might not be
that big a deal with an Onan, but it's a useful feature with my little
Generac.

Bukzin. Clarification. Three wide blades and a round pin ground is a 50 amp type plug. Jim

I believe all GMC upfitted coaches came wired for 50amp cords. I also believe the Coachman coaches (Royale and Birchaven) came wired with 30 amp and had what works out as a "manual" transfer switch. Other upfitters coaches are a grab-bag.

BUT after 30 some odd years, any coach can be wired with any cord.. sometimes these changes are even done safely!

You can also wire transfer switches in series to auto-magically select additional power sources... like an inverter.

How many ACs do you have?? One AC will run just fine on a 30 amp cord.
30 amp cords are so much easier to wind up in that little box. Most
state camp grounds only have 30 amp plugs. Same with a lot of the
private camp grounds. One of the first things I did when I got my GMC
was install the relay and a 30 amp cord. Never been
sorry.............Terry (with only one air conditioner)

On my 26', 1973 Glacier, there is a decal at the Electrical Utilities
Compartment that states:

*THIS CONNECTION FOR*
* 120/240 VOLT AC*
* 3 WIRE 4 POLE*
* 60 CYCLE SUPPLY*
* 40 AMP SERVICE*

Looks like an original decal on original paint.
Shore cord is three flat blades and one round ground post.
Coach has two A/C units.

As part of my collecting part for a (future) major rebuild, I just bought several transfer switches from the seller of this item:

Item number: 150467714851

They have both 30 amp and 50 amp and did a nice combined deal.

I'll post my thoughts when I receive the switches. They shipped today.

I am interested in how you wire the second 30 amp in. I am thinking this is for Generator, Shore and Inverter?

Here's how it's done, George. Inside the tranfer boxes, the relay, diode,
and capacitor are about all you'll find. Just connect two of them as shown.

I got a good deal and bought more than I need for a single project. (But I do have two coaches.... )

I am thinking one 50 amp with one input from the generator and one from shore power. The output would feed a non-inverter circuit breaker panel and one side of a second transfer switch. The other side of the second switch would be from an inverter, and would feed a second circuit breaker panel for inverter loads.

I doubt I would NEED a 50 amp switch for the inverter, but might find it useful to divide the inverter loads onto both legs of the 50amp shore power line.

If I have a switch or two left over I should be able to resell them for close to my price.

Mike,

Jim B and I are going to wire one 50 amp transfer switch and one 30 amp
transfer switch into Double Trouble while I'm here.

Since Avions have a 50 amp system a 50 amp t/s will select between shore
power, generator, or inverter.

A 30 amp T/S will be used to feed a single power point from the Zantrex
ProWatt SW-2000 (surge 3000 watts - IIRC) that is located under the
countertop for the microwave I just installed and one above the countertop
for the Keurig coffee maker or anything else we want to power without having
to run the Onan.

Rob M.
