Hi All

I need something that seals a small hole in my holding tank ( Big
stuff Tank) Is there anything that will patch it while on the coach. It
seems to be leaking very slowly.

Thanks
Steve

G'day,

Can you still call it a holding tank if it doesn't hold ?

If your out bush, I have used a self tapping screw with a dab of silicone, with success.

At home, a hot glue gun has held well. I found carefully pre-heating the area works best.
For more exposed areas that could do with some added protection, I have sanded the area back and fiberglassed.
Haven't had to redo with either method.

I bought a tank repair kit from Arrow Trailer Supply in Montclair, Ca. over 6 years and 60,000 miles ago. The tank has had a lot of use and the patch is still holding.

Other trailer supply or RV stores probably have the same thing.

The kit was a piece of fiberglass mesh fabric and a tube of black resin or glue. I think it also had a piece of sand paper to roughen the area to be repaired. Cost about 15 bucks.

Gene,
I did likewise when the molded in fitting for the dump vavle started
cracking. I super cleaned the area about 6" around the crack and weak
spot, then mixed up the stuff, spread it, then the cloth, more goop
and man that area is like it should have been from the factory and no
leaks.

Goop stuff, any variety, will hold much better than silicone.

I just went through this.

After the listers were kind enough to send me pics of what failed on
their tanks I knew that my problem was the same.

When Applied got my tank out, it was exactly what I thought. All of the
flanges were brittle and cracked with lots of "debris" on the top of the
tank.

They put in a new tank and now and can move on to the next thing,
figuring out how to divert the grey water because that black tank is
filling fast with it.

You can prep the surface for better adhesion with a propane torch. Run the tip of the inner blue flame around the area to be bonded just before you apply Plumbers Goo to the area, if possible.
Search 'paint adhesion flame' for some evidence.
"does not apply to gas tanks"
