Ken,
Good idea on avoiding a desert test drive this time of year. Our usual 'dry heat' has given way to the summer 'monsoon'. I was outside working in the yard today, 100 degree heat and 30% humidity. I sat down on the porch swing for a little break and marveled at how quiet it was outside. Then I realized it was because anybody with any sense was inside enjoying their air conditioning!

I like to tell people about shivering at the edge of the pool when it is
95°F. All it takes is my feet in the water, no shirt and no sun. Evaporative
cooling works great sometimes.

I had to laugh at a reporter on the east coast complaining of 85-90 degree weater and THIRTYFIVE percent humidity,,HA. Couple days ago it was a cooler 93 and 58 percent,,,,, was hard to breath and some times its worse,,,,

Too late, I went to Maricopa July 7th, 8th and 9th, from northern California. and if I stoppped for a moment and let the the rig idle it would boil the fuel out of the quadrajet. Just installed a new aluminum water pump and all new belts and hoses. I also suspect the crossover in the intake manifold is part of the issue. The other issue may be a collasped down pipe off the exaust manifold. Was in the city of Maricopa on the 8th of July loading a flat bed trailer that I had towed there to empty a storage unit. Wow hot was not the word, It was supposed to be 112, but near all those tin sheds it was closer to 125.
