Trip Log Day 1
23 miles from home ran over a large pavement I-84W due to road construction. About ¼ mile later there was a loud noise followed by a flapping noise. Left center tire tread had separated and taken out tee skirt. Pulled off at next exit to inspect with no problems, tire was still inflated.
Wife’s iphone said there was a Les Schwab Tire Store 1 mile down the street. Two hours and $338 later, two new tires were installed on the front axles and the front tires moved to the middle axles.
About 60 miles later, I noticed the alternator belt was squealing when the engine speed exceeded 2500 rpm. This was a new Goodyear 15572 belt. It was 11mm wide and had been operated at a fast idle for 30 minutes and then re-tightened. I stopped in the Hood River Walmart parking lot and re-tightened it.
We stopped at a O-Reiley’s in Hood river and picked up a spare alternator belt.
Going up the Columbia River Gorge with high winds, badly rutted roads, and road construction was interesting to say the least. Once out of the Gorge, the GMC drove well and we picked up the speed to 50+ mph. Max speed was limited by the alternator belt. We traveled to Pendleton, OR and parked in the Wild Horse Casino Parking Lot for the night. We didn’t want to climb Cabbage Hill in the dark.
Mileage – 224 miles
Vapor Lock – None
Maximum Elevation – 1250 ft
