As an "ex" owner, who knows that someday, the GM bus will go and another GMC will find it's way into our lives......I watch Craigslist (the Site Mash) to see what is out there.
Here is my gripe. I look at these ads and many times have no clue as to the geographic location of the rig (and some do not have phone numbers to do "number look-up"). Oh, sure, I am fine with "SFbay" or Anytown, Virginia.....but I am only 63 years old, and maybe someday I will know where "inland empire" is, but I don't now, or "hickory", "chico" (aka "paradise"), "nmi", etc....slang locales are great for your immediate neighborhood, but if I had an ad, I would:
A: include my phone number
B: assume the ad is being read by folks OUTSIDE of the "craiglist" site you put the ad in.

Craigslist has always been a local ad site. It is designed to be like your newspaper classifieds, only it's free for most things and online. The mashup and everything else is what people have come up with who want to search outside of a given area, but that's not what craigslist is designed for. As for putting up a phone number on the ad, not in a million years. Every bot in creation would have that number and you'd never get rid of the telephone solicitors, even if you are on the national DNC registry. You are trying to use the site for something it wasn't designed for. The people posting are using the site as it was meant to be used.

I share your frustration.
I've heard interviews with Craig Newmark and I think that is exactly the way he wants it.
He wants it to be a local, community village kinda' thing and each community is formed, and probably named, at the request of the users. They do nothing to encourage or support people from outside a given community coming in.
Of course, he can't stop other geeks from making tools that allow us to search the whole country. But I believe your complaint would fall on deaf ears.

Then they will sell their rig to the lady next door, and a sign in the windshield will do the trick.
(Of course, there are people right on this forum that are looking at coaches.....and BEYOND their next door neighbor. I personally FLEW one way to buy my first one. Many DO put their phone numbers on their ads, but those that also don't locate themselves don't seem to.)
Geeeeeeeeshhhhh
(on edit, my suggestion was only for those who WANT to sell their rigs, not the other sellers)

Tim, I will be corrected if I am wrong, but I think the "mash" sites take the local ads and present them as they are. I don't think anyone physically forwards these ads to any mash site.

Yeah I hear ya on that. Google is your friend. I google for CRAIGSLIST and the "unknown" location. This will usually give the local craigslist page and by looking around on that page at "nearby cities" I can usually figure it out.

I see you mentioned 'our neck of the woods', Chico and Paradise.
We are 90 minutes north of Sacramento in Butte County.
I could look at coaches for you here.
You might also look at the main CraigsList page. Its organized
by state, then city to help with locations.
'Inland Empire' is Riverside, etc. East of Los Angeles.
A few million people.
Have fun in your search!

I'd be willing to bet that it is the very rare placename that would not return the necessary clues when entered into Google.
For example, this was the second link when googling "Inland Empire":

Craigslist is a public portal no more or less reliable than any other free similar site. I never expect much when I use it and I've learned not to trust it much, but it is handy when an honest person uses it to post something. Thats about less than 10% I would say. I never post personal info or my phone, I use the anonymous email. If your selling always use a public meeting place to show the item. If your buying, go into it knowing you may lose your money. The internet is a cesspool and is getting more and more so as time goes on. Beware, use common sense and you will be OK.
