If not already split, split it in two (horizontally with angle flanges to screw together). Now you should be able to remove the lower 1/2 shroud in <5 min. and make everything on the front of the engine easy to access.

As long as I am looking at some serious in-season wrench time, Can a split fan shroud be installed without removing the radiator, condenser and trans cooler?

Yup! The only tough fastener to access is the upper LH by the rad
hose. The rest goes pretty quickly.

Most definitely. you put 4 bolts to the rear of the radiator mount hold it in place. Another 4 small vertical bolts hold the two halfs together.
The PITA is getting the old horse collar one off. Once it is off, the new one is nothing to install.

I read a lot here about replacing the fan shroud with a 2 piece fiberglass aftermarket shroud but I am thinking I could just split the original shroud. Where is the fallacy in my thinking?

Hey Bill
I did mine some time ago; one of the first mods I did to the coach that I
got from your bud in Zanesville, Rex B.
I don't remember blow by blow what I did other than it was simple.
I took off the shroud [after removing the fan as I recall,] out the bottom.
With the item out and workable, and still intact, I added to each side a
plate of scrap aluminum, locally secured.
About just a few inches square.
Then I used self tapping screws and installed one plate on each side, midway
up each side.
Used 4 screws each side.
Removed plates and sawed the shroud in half , midway between screw holes.
Reassembled the shroud using the plates, but by using pop rivets on the
upper end of each plate.
[2 rivets, 2 screws each side.]
Replaced into coach
It took only a hour or so, after I made the plates in advance.
Not a big job at all,
and it is a good premptive mod because I have never had to use it .
It has been a while but that is my recollection as of now.
[But I have slept since.....]

From the pictures I've seen that sounds like a pretty good description
of what the mod entails. I might quibble with "It took only and hour or
so..." however.
That's a 6 hour job if I ever saw one. It should only take a couple
hours but that's almost never the case. If you really did that in less
than 2 hours I am most impressed, George...
Just sayin'...

Ah Ha! Now I get it. Sorry for being so dense. My confusion was because I thought the original fan shroud was steel. Now all I have to do is get the old one out and replace it with my new to me shroud which I will split beforehand. Looking closely at my original it won't be too soon as it is cracked and broken in many places. Maybe getting it out will be easier if I just cut it up into pieces in place.
