I just took a hit in my AC compressor and with all the discussion about rebuilt unit quality, I was shopping for new and found:

E-Bay item 180306753769

They say it is an absolute bolt in for an A6. (395$us no shipping)

AZ says a new A6 is available for 420 (probably plus shipping ?, and sales tax ~ 25$).

Has anybody installed one of these?

Matt

Matt,

There have been several discussions on using a Sanden replacement..
Here is one photo album using a Volvo unit.

On your failed compressor, can you still rotate the compressor but the pulley/sheave is frozen?

We seem to be trading notes in strange order.

Thanks for the link. Too bad it doesn't give actual Volvo application (model and year) or a Sanden part number.

The drive plate does turn just fine.

I am half thinking of calling AZ and others to see if they do loan the clutch pulling tool. If they do, I might try. But as per the prior (other) note, I don't give it a whole lot of hope.

If I could patch and run, I'll just save this for a winter project.

I think that you will find that the compressors are all the same. The problem is that there are differences in the clutch, the pully diameter, the pulley groove width and the distance from the pully groove centerline to the front of the compressor. If you don't get the right one your belt won't line up, or it will slip in the groove or it will be at an angle to the engine pulleys. The diameter of the pulley will determine the belt length that you need and also the speed at which the compressor will run relative to the engine speed.

There were two options on the compressor. A "superheat" model and a "high pressure" model. The GMC is a "superheat".

When you look at them at an auto parts store you will find that the clutch and pulley assembly varies greatly. The GMC takes a 7/16 inch, 5- 3-4" pulley. However, some with that size pulley has the pulley about one inch too close to the compressor body.

If anyone wants to rebuild their own, the compressor is 57052 ("superheat"),
the clutch is 48276, the hub is 48241, and the coil is 48245. You'll need a
special puller that threads into the hub to pull it off the shaft so unless
you have or can beg, borrow, or steal the puller, you'd probably be better
off getting the complete assembly, 57087.

I sure wouldn't order one blindly off ebay without knowing a lot more about the configuration. There is no such thing as an "absolute bolt in" for all applications.

Check with Ken Henderson, he has been working some light weight compressers.

I have had luck getting parts from GMDiRECT or GMPARTS.COM ..

The prices are quite resonable, BUT you have to supply them with a VIN number. I think they may get a crink in the neck when they get the TZE number.

If you go this route, make sure you talk to a voice for the order, you probably will have to anyway.

They have a very particular non returns policy as they feel they send out the proper part and they don't like taking back anything special order.

But you might be able to save a lot of bucks, check em out.

LarC ( Used them for Caddy parts and for my Jimmy )
