I like the idea I saw a few weeks ago of moving the starter cable directly to the battery because of my battery disconnect that had the big draw from the starter going thru it. But, will that prevent use of the battery boost switch to get extra power if needed?

The way I understand the change, you just move the wire from the starter from the boost switch and connect it at the battery post.
This eliminates an "extra connection" in the line from the battery to the starter. (At high amps, that connection drops "a lot" of voltage.) You should retain the connection from the battery to the boost switch, you'll just not be routing the starter power through it... unless you are using the boost function.
