I'm anxiously awaiting to hear from the muffler shop as to a nay or yea on
installing the headers and 3" system.
Which leads me to my next question:
Which flowmaster do I ask them to install? Has anyone used the
"hushpower"???
thanks!

I have a hush power sitting on the garage floor.
It's very loud! I bought it because I have a royale and there is a grey tank really close to the muffler. The desired Flowmaster 70 was 1/2" away.
The flow master is loud, the hushpower is worse.
Unless you want your motorhome to sound like a open pipe Harley, use at least a flowmaster 70...
BTW, the 70 is a TIGHT squeeze. you will need to open up the frame rail of the cross member to make it fit.
You also need to turn the bolts around so the heads are in.
I also cut off the corner of mine to get it to fit better.

I cannot fit the muffler in the rear, not a chance, my waste tank is only 9" away from the inside of the frame rail. So I plan to put a single muffler up front, what are the opinions on that ???

I had problems with a single in the rear providing an excessive amount of noise. I have used both the 70 series Flowmaster and the Hushpower Flowmaster muffler. The Hushpower was quite loud with quite a rap. The 70 series was quieter than the huspower, but still rapped when on the throttle going up hill or accelerating to get on expressway. I tried several other mufflers back there always getting the same awful "rap". Final solution was a 70 series Flowmaster with a resonator in the dog-leg. I've found that you just gotta have a BIG muffler back there. Here's a pic of the resonator in place in the dog-leg.

Oh, BTW, here is the resonator I used. The resonator is a Vibrant 1142 3" Ultra Quiet resonator. It is available from Amazon.com.
http://www.amazon.com/Vibrant-1142-Ultra-Quiet-resonator/dp/B001806YE2
NOW it's quiet with a nice idle rumble.

A friend of mine has a flowmaster 70 up front with dual inlets.
Sounds good, but hangs low, he is always scraping it.
It is not quiet, but I do like the sound.
I plan on putting two glass packs or 3" spiral mufflers up front in addition to the chopped up 70 I have in the rear.
Oh and it's less about which is the quietest and more about least loud...

If you want quiet system, you should go the route of the 2 in front.
Use the non performance mufflers.
The Magnaflow SS ones we supply with or kit is quiet inside, slightly noisy
on the outside only.
They are quite compared to a rear, but the large Flowmaster sounds loud at
the outlet only on the single system.

The two main problems I see with the mufflers up front are heat and having a plugged muffler making the intake heating problem worse. If your crossover is plugged you have eliminated one of the problems. Installing additional under floor insulation and additional heat shields on the added insulation and around the muffler oughta make the remaining problem acceptable.

I have been using 2 Walker Dyna max 2 1/2"mufflers in the stock location for a lot of years they are 3 pass mufflers and are not noisy. Walker claimed that they would out perform the Flow master?
Weather they do or not I couldn't say but they are not restrictive with a bunch of baffles to break up and plug the mufflers. They are pretty simple in design with good flow and last I checked in the $60 range from Summit. I replaced them once after a lot of years of use they are not stainless just double wrapped galvanized I think. I now have a 3" tailpipe and Thorley tri y headers but I used them when I had stock manifolds and pipes also. I couldn't see changing to a different muffler set up when what I had was working fine for me. I never did seem to have the hot floor some folks talk about weather or not these mufflers had any bearing on that I don't know. I do know they were real popular in the past with hot rodders and were a copy of the famous Chrysler Hemi mufflers.

Pete,
I have a single muffler up front with headers and 3 inch exhaust.
Many of Miguel Mendez's customers have this same set up. I don't remember the name or the specs on the muffler but Miguel can tell you.
I was concerned that the single muffler would be louder than I wanted. The installer said that he could add a small resonator if I wanted it quieter. I went without the resonator and am pleased with the set up.
The muffler is a flat rectangular shape with 2 pipes in and one out. It produces a nice mellow sound and it does not heat up the floor. It does not scrape the ground.

Sounds like a SpinTech: <http://www.spintechmufflers.com/mufflers/street-mufflers/truck-/-rv-8000-series/cat_30.html>
I am thinking a interesting system would be a large double inlet single muffler up front and a single glass pack in the rear. No "Y" pipe, should be free flowing and not to loud.
I have a single in/out SpinTech that I have yet to install. It fits up between the frame rails in the rear position without modifications. Some day, I'll finish that installation.

I am wondering what muffler position is best for low RPM torque. I know that the small, high rev'ing and high horsepower engines in JimK's favorite cars, all seem to have the mufflers in the rear. But I also know that to get high low end torque, you often need to the opposite of the high HP seekers.
Does anyone KNOW?

We supply the Magna flow mufflers as they do not have baffles that can get
loose and cause restriction. They are warrantied for life and we stand
behind them. No papers to process, call and we send you another N/C and pick
up freight both way.
They utilize a small perforated holes of ss
tube . The ones we use are the larger unit and are quiet and flows well.
