Has anyone ever looked into increasing the size of the fresh and black water
tanks? As my wife and I are looking at GMCs for us and our four kids, we're
concerned about the size of the tanks. We like dry camping, so having tanks
that can last at least a few days with the kids is important to us.
I've read that both the fresh water and black water tanks are around 35-40
gallons (not sure if the Royales are different). It looks like a larger
fresh water tank could be put under the front couch, but I don't know what
kind of room there is underneath the coach for a larger black water tank.
Also, any drawbacks to having just a black water tank instead of gray and
black water tanks?

Bryan,
A few thoughts,
- carry separate bottled water
- with 4 children you may be a good candidate for a recirculting toilet
- call JimK about the extra 19 gallon black tank that fits on some coaches.
- get an outdoor shower to reduce grey water (at least for the children)

Keep in mind:
Fresh water should kept inside so it will not freeze, good to have a gray
tank for the shower and sink water to be bled off when your gray water fills
up.
That is the big draw back of the standard units. I prefer the separate gray
and black.

I added a second drain to the shower like Dan and Teri did. Regardless of what you do, you also have to consider the beer factor.
When at a campground, send the kids to the campground bathroom to pee.
I have a larger fresh than black tank. I do have room for the second tank, but I will wait and see...

my Royale has a replacement black tank that is smaller than the original but i understand Jim K. has a larger one. my wife and i can go 4 days max on the black tank. also in the rear bath model the bathroom sink drains into the black so we don't use that sink. we attach a hose to the outlet and drain the gray tank into the woods where allowed.

Chris, did you do the sink drains also? That will save a lot of space.
You can add another fresh water tank pretty easy. I see all sizes and shapes on ebay. teri and I just cary drinking water from home in jugs, but we do not have children in the coach with us.
