Does anyone have any experience with or knowledge about the Ragusa Aluminum Screen Door...???

Am wondering if it's contoured (curved) to the body and just how difficult the installation would be. Also wondering if it's worth the $420.00 (+/-) plus shipping.

Thanks loads,

It is curved.

Installation on 1973 GMC was easy.

Support from Ragusa was excellent.

Certainly worth it if you must have a screen door.

Some minor gaps remain but can be closed with rubber flaps. etc...

The boss (my better half) wanted one thing...a screen door. Unable to find a Birch door, I opted for the Ragusa. A really NICE looking door. It took me 45 minutes to install it, and two days to adjust it. I spent some time on the phone with people from Ragusa. They are Very helpful,,,Very nice people. I miss cut the weather stripping around the door. I called them about it and they sent new seal for free!!. I also asked why so difficult to install. He said that considering the age of the coaches and varied rates of sagging, the door is made to fit the "average" GMC coach, so some fit perfect right up front and install in minutes. Others are a SOB (and I don't mean Some Other Brand). In my case, I had to bend the hinges and even the door a little to get an acceptable fit. Keep in mind that if you have valances around the window, and the valance is more than 3/4" thick, the Ragusa door will not work. If you have blinds that are outside of the window rather than inside of the window frame, the Ragusa door will not work. Anything that adds thickness to the inside of the door limits the fit of the Ragusa door. I also found that the fastener used to clamp the hinge to the door to be sorrily inadequate. The sheet metal screws provided stripped out of the hole almost immediately during use of the door. I ended up drilling through and adding a 1/4" X 4" piece of aluminum bar stock to the inside with 1/4-20 bolts to hold it securely. All in all, now that it is adjusted properly, I'm quite happy with it.

Like Steve said, it's the only one out there and it is nice to open the door without being attacked.  Is it worth it-- is it to you?  Think about this, over 10 years ago when you could buy a Birch screen door they cost over $400, tell me something that has not gone up in cost.

Steve,

Please see the other thread on this subject.

I purchased a Ragussa screen door from Jim K last summer and installed it at my wife's request. It pretty much matches the contour of the coach door and fits remarkably well. As Larry stated, you can't have anything protruding from the inside of your door. In my case, I had to change the way the blinds were mounted to get them inside the window opening. The install was straightforward, but it took quite a bit of time to get it adjusted to fit correctly. As it turns out, if I had trimmed the vinyl weather stripping right off the bat, I think it would have fit really well as first installed. The vinyl is rather stiff, especially when it is cold, and hangs up on the door frame, making it appear like the door does not fit right. Once I trimmed the weather strip to the proper size (to fit the opening and not drag on the jamb) I finally got it to work really well. As far as price goes, you'll have to figure out how much you want a screen door and determine it's value from there. In my case, Kathy wanted it, and whatever Kathy wants for the coach, she gets.
