Now that Nick Chapekis (thank you) has found us a carrier, what can I do to get an real appraisal from a knowledgeable appraiser without driving the coach a couple of thousand miles?

I'm sure this is like marine surveyors. There are lots of people doing it and about a third are good.

Matt, you can get one at Du Quoin. Jim K. always does several at the conventions. He did mine at Rayne, La.

Cinnabar probably does appraisals. They are not too far from you.

When I got my Progressive policy, I asked for an "agreed value" policy, but frankly haven't yet read the fine print to see if that's what I got. But when I was signing up for it, i asked how the agreed value was set, and they told me it had to be appraised by a certified appraiser. Not sure who does the certification, but you might talk to your agent or company to be sure who they'll accept before spending time and money getting the appraisal.
