Since it is still for sale by its previous (and apparently
long-time) owner, I'd say it is likely that the January
"buyer" reneged!

Royale's were transmodes. From the sn # it was one of the last one built. Should have Electro-level II & the best dash AC.

As far as I know Transmodes didn't get the ElectroLevel II or the
improved AC output. Nor did they get the fridge louvers in the body as
regular 78's did. Sutliff listed it as a Transmode several years ago. And
yes, Royales were Transmodes but not all Transmodes were Royales. I
didn't see anything that suggested it was a Royale before it was modified
but may have missed Royale clues.

I like the rear galley. This would be a great coach for someone with home
renovo skills. Stick could make his bunk 8' long but I know he doesn't
want to start from scratch.

The walnut cabinets and the (relocated) systems control panel are
distinctively Royale.

I have a 1978 Royale Transmode mfg in Jan 78. Finished by Jimmy industries
(Coachman) It has the 403 eng. Electrolevel II, 6KW onan, Single Duo therm
Roof AC. Drivers Side Galley and Dometic Fridge with Side dry bath, Two
single beds with two bunk beds above them. There is a night stand between
the beds that houses the buzz box inverter, breakers, 12v fuses and water
drain valve for the freshwater 40 gallon tank and sureflo pump housed under
the pass side bed. Next to the entry door is a coctail bar and counter with
a double door clothes closet next to that. Ahead of the door is a Dinette
which folds down to make a double bed. This coach was sold new in Wisconsin
to a Honda Auto dealership with 9 miles on the clock. Probably used the
Honda dealer as a broker. It has the improved Dash AC with vacuum operated
fresh air vents with recirc. I have tried to keep the interior as stock
appearing as possible. Only Royale I have seen exactly like this one.

It is TZE368V101754. My Birchaven (TZE338V101163) has both ELII and the upgraded dash AC. While almost anything is possible, (considering GM at the time) I suspect this transmode also has ELII and the upgraded dash AC.

The cabinets ("hutch/refreshment center" and closet) just aft of the door are from a side dry bath, front kitchen Royale.
<http://www.bdub.net/publications/1978_GMC_by_Coachman/1978_GMC_Coachman3.htm>
It is the same design as the one in my Birch. It looks like the "hutch/refreshment center" has some water damage.

To reconvert back to a true motorhome, the cost in materials alone would be more than a usable motorhome in todays prices. The only ways this would be a good buy for someone would be for someone who wasn't going to use as a motorhome or someone who had been planing to gut and start over.

It IS a better candidate than my 1973 for a rebuild... except it is on the other side of the country.
