I took a stroll thru the local men's mall Sunday....
Several Chevy/Pontiac/GMC silhouette vehicles with the correct drivers side
wiper blade
Lots of Buick/Caddy/Pontiac cruise control parts
Lots of electric levelers for the suspension systems
Several GMC steering wheels, including one off a GMC Jimmy that would not
come off
And finally....a 1979 Olds Regency with a diesel in it....untouched.
Cheers,
Len and Pat

You were wise to leave it and run as fast as you can.

While almost everyone will agree that the Olds diesel was a poorly executed idea, I do not believe it was converted from a gas engine. (I have read this several places.)
From <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldsmobile_V8_engine#LF9_Diesel>
Quote: | ... The Oldsmobile diesel is believed by some to be a converted gasoline engine. While they share the same bore and stroke and some external bolt patterns (transmission and exhaust manifolds) they are quite different.
GM began with a substantially different bottom end when compared with its gasoline cousin. ...
|
BUT I also understand that with it's stronger bottom end and block, it CAN be converted to a very strong gasoline engine.
from: <http://www.442.com/oldsfaq/ofedsl.htm>
Quote: | The 350 diesel block with a 425 crank and the stock bore size block (4.057") will yield a bulletproof 411 CID gasoline small block. The 350 diesel block can be safely overbored .125" without sonic testing, to make a 437 CID small block. The 350 diesel block can be bored out to 4.25" when sonic tested. With a shaved down 425 crank and a 3.975 stroke, that works out to 451 cubic inches.

Twenty plus years ago found a 1/2 ton Chevy diesel with the crank hanging
out of the pan. for $300.00
We replaced it with a 350 Olds engine from the men's mall.
Good truck for around $600.00
That G M diesel engine was a work of art!
Run don't walk away from them.
Sold it when the state of Kaliforina started to check up on all the G M
diesel to gas conversions.
The state wanted them all to pass SMOG?
So much for good thing.
Howard
P S Sold it and made some $'s after four years of use.
