We just returned from a 1600 mile trip to St. Augustine Fl, Anderson, S.C. and Chattahoochee, Fl.
Overall a real nice drive. Temps were in the high 90's but the A/C kept us comfortable.
Having set the timing at 10 BTDC and 900 RPM before leaving I was a little concerned that it was too much and I kept listening for pings. I never heard anything even when climbing some of the bigger hills in North Ga and S.C.
Starting was something else though. Before I set the timing, the engine would start on the first turn. Now it seems to take several turns to catch.
Had one instance of what I believe was vapor lock just South of Tampa, it quit, like running out of gas, I turned on the Electric pump and it started and ran fine, I turned off the Electric shortly after and we continued our trip without further problem.
The Cruise Control also stopped working. I checked the fuse and it is ok. Will have to look into it further.
We have been averaging 7.9 mpg prior to this trip. I do not have the final numbers yet but it looks like we picked up a little more than 1 mpg as a result of resetting the timing.
I intend on resetting the timing again, this time according to the book, 8 BTDC at 1100 RPM.
