G’day,

What temperature would the fuel temp have to be reduced to in order to
prevent vapor lock?

Regards,

There are varables. How good is your gas? Its my understanding the gasoline boils at diffrent temps. Depending on how it was "refined". Altitude makes a diffrence. Gas almost never boils on the pressure side unless its really hot. When the pressure is reduced, ie. the suction side it boils at a lower temp. Kinda like water boiling out of your AC system at 70 deg. when its being pulled down before adding freon. Thats why several GMC,s reported VL going up that big hill a couple years ago on the way to Estes Park. I was there and the tranny fluid hit 260. No vapor lock and it was 85-90, from what I remember. Can,t recall the altitude. Hope this helps,,,,,PL

Netters'
Our wonderful gas now will boil at 98 no matter what grade.
I installed aluminum diamond plate from the front to back under the tanks
with upturn in front of the first tank.
Using 3/4 " spacers and sheet metal screws
This blocks the heat from engine and the road surface.
I have tried to post photos and some how I can't do that on this site.
Yes I know I can add them to the GMC photo site and then you can down load
the photos.
I have not taken the time to do so, Sorry.
I think you get the idea.
I have also add four quarts of Marvel Mystery Oil to the fuel coming back
from Los Vegas once.
Some one said ATF would also work and others thought I was NUTS!
Saying the oil to fuel ratio would not help with vapor lock?
Worked for us.
Thanks
Howard

I once had a Porsche that had a fuel cooler - the fuel line went through a heat exchanger on the cold side of the air conditioner. Might be an idea....

I believe that current formulation winter blend fuel will boil at about 90
Degrees Celcius at normal (14.7 psi) atmospheric pressure at 50 percent
relative humidity. Summer blend is a few degrees warmer than that. Not hard
to see that temp under the hood of our GMC's. The Wonderfuel (wonder what
they have added to it this week) is made for fuel injection, not carbs. As
the flight controllers tell pilots with terroists on board, YOYO! You're On
Your Own.
