Is there someone in the Seattle area on this list that has a GMC Royale with the rear dry bath and twin beds that we could look at? Specifically, I want to measure the twin beds to see if they're long enough for us.

I have looked at many coaches on the web and this model and layout seems like it would be the best for our use. It would be great for my wife to see one before I go chasing one down, and they mostly seem to be out of state and MANY miles away from where we live.

The only GMC that I have seen is the one that is for sale in Edmonds, but it's rougher around the edges than I'm looking for and is an Edgemount with a full bed in the rear and a dry, side bath.

We're both six feet tall and normally sleep on a cal-king mattress (84" long). Most beds in RV's are too restrictive in length for us. Also, though I am willing to consider a wet bath, the rear bath, though it eats up a little more space in the coach, seems like it is more open and airy, allowing more space to move, particularly when using the shower. There's always more perception of space when using a shower curtain than being enclosed in fiberglass.

Tony, I,m also 5' 12", sleep just fine in our rear bath. I sleep on my side. 79" is what I recall. We just cut new foam because of a really bad mold problem. (really, really bad.) Will measure and repost after lunch.,,,PL

Thanks for the info. That helps a lot. I would think that the rear twins (mid-bath) would be restrictive because your feet (if you're tall) would be touching the walls all the time. Same thing with the rear bed models: You sleep cross-wise in the coach and have your feet touching the inside of the coach.

The rear-bath, mid-twin layout allows at least one person to have their feet hang over the end of the mattress if need be.

Tony,

Here's some info I posted awhile back.

**************************************************************************

G'day,

I've discovered something interesting for those interested in buying a GMC
with rear twin beds.

The measurements below were taken from the back wall under the rear window
to the bathroom wall (driver side) and closet wall (passenger side).

1) Royale by Coachman (Measured John Sharpe's Royale): Passenger side: 73.25
inches x 33 inches Drivers side: 73 inches x 33 inches

2) Avion by Avion (Measured my Avion):
Passenger side: 75 inches x 34 inches
Drivers side: 74 inches x 34 inches

3) Edgemont by GMC (Measured at Michael Bozardt's shop last year and another
one at the Tulsa Lunch Bunch's rally at the Balloon Festival this past
weekend) Passenger side: 77 inches by 36 inches Drivers side: not measured

I found this very interesting as according to the drawings / sketches /
brochures I had found when I was looking for a rear twin did not note that
the rear twins in the Edgemont were that long!

Bottom line if you're tall and looking for a rear twin the Edgemont is the
best! I'm 6 foot 1 1/2 inches and I sleep OK on the passenger side bed in
the Avion (head forward) but when I slept in John Sharpe's Royale I did not
sleep as well. Believe it or not the extra inch and three quarters made a
difference!

**************************************************************************

Subsequent to this message I have found out that several other models made
by GMC with rear twins had the same measurements as the Edgemonte and that
the drivers side bed is the same dimensions as the passenger side in those
models.

The nice thing about rear twins is that you don't have to make up the beds
every night!

Since you are in Seattle area I would suggest you look at the Cascaders Website. I think you can view the "for-sale" as a guest. If not contact Tony Wright in Kirkland and I'm sure he will grant temp access to the Cascaders' "for-sale". I'd be glad to help except I'm off to Canada early Sun on a fishing trip. My email is rwbmitiopt at comcast.net and I will be back in a week or so if you still need help.

Tony:

We are about an hour from Seattle and have a GMC Royale. It is a side bath though, with twin rear beds. My husband is 6'2" and has been able to adapt to the smaller bed size. What we did is put a half board at the end between the two beds. With a couple of pillows atop for comfort, he is able to stretch out a bit. The shower, well that is a different story. I am 5'6" and my head hits the top. We use it as storage.
As Randy says, you should be able to view the Cascader website at http://www.fmcanw.org/gmc/ and access any information about GMC for sale in this area.
Any further questions let me know.

Jackie: not sure how your head hits the top of the shower....ours measures exactly 6' and I am also 5'6" and find it more than comfortable. do you have a false floor in it? perhaps to bring it to the level of the entry door?
