I just purchased a 78 Royale and coming back home from refueling yesterday I had (what could be vapor locks) I was not sure I was going to get home. I had no problem when driving about 70 miles on the highway checking it out. In 5 miles it dies 5 times acting like it just ran out of gas. I was thinking I may have a fuel line sucking air. It does have an electric fuel pump and mechanical. It does seem to work better on reserve tank setting (maybe a coincidence). What is the TRUE test for this malady??? Anyone have suggestion? May just have purchased a pig in a poke. Beautiful coach but not muck faith in it right now.

Eugene,
Electric fuel pump is not the solution. I had both manual and electric and still had vapor lock. Lock on manual and electric would only sometimes take care of the problem. I removed manual pump and went strictly with electric. Still have problem. Electric pump is just forward of the tank selector valve about
three inches. What do we do now? I am ready to try almost any thing and I don't have mountains.

Water?? Could it be that the water in the tanks settles to the intake when
the vehicle is not moving? Do you have a fuel/water separator?

I have not been following your problem----
but

I just replaced my selector valve. It would work on only one tank (lucky)
sometimes neither tank will work.

sounded like it was working but did not.

I guess you could bypass the selector valve and try one tank for a while to
see if this was the problem. ( or replace the valve;>)

I had a marine fuel/water separator that I removed when
I eliminated the manual fuel pump. The reason I removed
it is that, where it was located there was about 8 to 10
more feet of fuel line with it installed. Fuel tanks have been
cleaned and sealed. Pick up and sending units replaced.
All the fuel lines and filters have been replaced. I have
also tried different electric fuel pumps. Even went so far
as to try an 8 PSI pump only to flood the carburetor when
I turned it on. I am not the only one having this problem.
Others in the area are having the same problem. One
added second electric pump, so when he switches tanks
the second pump activated. Another just completed
dropping tanks, replacing lines and filters. Little or no
change. Around 100 degree temperatures, we all have
the exact same problems Denny described. The only thing
I have seen mensioned on the list that I have not done or
tried is insulating the fuel tanks.
Still looking fo answers.

I have been on 1 run to one of our rallies this spring in late may
here in Michigan and it was unseasonably hot in the high 80's. Coming
out of 2 rest areas the coach stumbled a little under acceleration
then cleaned up. I have an all electric fuel system, p4070 pump,
just after a filter just after the selector valve and an inline fuel
filter at the old mechanical pump was located at. No filter in the
carb. Had no issue all winter on trip to Florida and back. When I
took the cap off the fuel tank to fill I got a rush of fuel vapor as
it depressurized. The gas appears to be the issue. When I fill the
tanks up the gas is cool and no problems. Next step is to add the
heat shield on the exhaust as it passes the gas tanks. See if that
reduces the heat gain.
