My old 16.5 spare has had a slow leak for years. I finally decided to yank it and either go with a 16" or replace it with a new 16.5. Once I removed it I was struck by how nice these coaches look with no tire back there. I'm seriously thinking about yanking the bracket as well. I've never had the need for a spare in 20 or so years--on the other hand I suspect the minute I don't have it ...... Are any others running with no spare?

Bob;
I have thought about.
Never had a flat.
We can always call for road service.

Bob,
I agree that the GMC looks much better without that spare and I am
comfortable going without. However I have a four bag rear suspension
which will enable me to continue on five down. Also if you have a
towed you can always transport the flat to a repair shop or as has
been mentioned call for road service.

You would be limited to traveling only where you can get cell service and then waiting on them to arrive. Maybe you could fab an under-coach bracket if there was enough room around all the sewer hose, etc.

Bob,

Consider that carefully.

A recent Sunday afternoon in Ohio (along route 2), it took more than an hour and an half to get someone there with the wrong jack. I had a cracked wheel, but if I had needed a new 16.5 tire, I probably would have been Second On Line (SOL) for the last one in Ohio.

If you had 16" wheels that can use grocery store tires and never have to be anywhere on time, then that might be a reasonable way to go.

I'm still trying to find a jack that I can carry and will lift the front without damage.

Matt

I thought about removing the spare carrier and making a drawer that goes under the rear bed. The tire would lay flat in there.
Would that work?

Not in my case Harry.
There is a black dump and the hitch to deal with there.
Besides,
Nothing would say GMC without the space cover ?
Where would I put the Jenkins spare cover?

I have been told (by Bill Harvey who sent me these pictures) that it REALLY eats into storage under the bed.

It does "work."
