When I got my coach the shower head was not connected and the diverter faucet had been replaced with a non-diverter type.

I plumbed in a simple RV shower faucet to resolve that. That works, but we learned that it is inconvenient to turn off the water and then re-adjust the temperature. So we are tempted to leave it running when we really do not need to. And we are also learning the value of conserving water when you only have about 35 gallons on board.

I still have (what I believe to be) the original shower head. And it drips a little at the faucet end of the hose. I would like to replace it. I have found some residential shower heads that have a "pause" button. That seems like it would work. But I am wondering if the residential shower heads use WAY more water than the "RV" ones.

If so are there any RV shower heads that have some kind of a pause feature? The other idea I had is what they do at Oshkosh Airventure and use a dish sprayer (where you have to press the lever to turn on) for a shower head.

In all the RV's I have had I have struggled with this question. The new hand held household shower heads are required to have less than a 3 gpm flow rate at quiet a high pressure, something over 60 psi. So, at the pressure we usually run with a 12 volt RV pump, they use less. You can measure it with one gal. container and a watch.

The shut off on most of the home units (if they have it) is less than complete, as is true of many of the RV shower heads. That has something to do with backflow issues, I believe. But you can find ones that shut most if not all of the flow off. However, it is a trial and error process, with the need to return things if you are not happy.

The numbers of heads available is so vast I can't give you any recommendations. They change very frequently, so the one I have and love probably is no longer available.

But they all (home or RV) should be quite low flow today. The package may even say the specific flow rate, but that is not common.

Paul,

What you are saying is really strange.

Did you install a kitchen type diverter in the head (bathroom)??
That is the wrong thing to have there for lots of reasons.

What you need looks like this:
<http://www.rvpartscenter.com/ProductDetail.asp?PID=28877&SID=36&DID=102&CID=265>
With a manual diverter. Adjust the temperature, then divert it to the shut down shower head.

Then you need the shower head with, as you call it, a pause function. This is a standard item in RVs and boats. Like this one:<http://www.rvpartscenter.com/ProductDetail.asp?PID=28877&SID=36&DID=102&CID=265>
These shut the shower flow down to a dribble so someone doesn't get scalded.
The supplier was chosen by expedience, I have never done business with these people.

If that is not what you have, think about it.

If the shower hose drips at the faucet end and cannot be stopped, just get a new hose at lows despot. The coach part is the same as a house part. Get the longest they have.

My shower heads at home all use more than the 1.5 GPM that is all you are supposed to get these days, but I like it that way.

You can buy a small valve that fits between the end of the hose and the shower head. Home Depot, Ace Hardware and Lowes should all sell them. They come with a sliding push button and also with a turn valve.

I can send you a picture of one if you need it.

The ones with the turning valve are FAR better. The ones I have
with the push button valve don't fully shut off, but ARE tolerable.

Matt,

This is what I installed in the bathroom. I ran new hot and cold lines to get to this faucet which is now mounted high on the wall behind the toilet. The shower hose is then connected to this thing.

Emery,

I might be able to find something around the hardware stores, but a picture or link would be helpful.

Thanks,

Here you go:

You should be able to get these for $5 to 6. I have seen some for up to $25 but they are the same thing. So shop around.

In our first GMC I went to a hardware store and got a simple kitchen sprayer with a short hose and connected it with a couple of fittings. It is the type with a thumb trigger. Thinking about doing it in the current GMC as the original does not shut off well.

Well that sure should work.
That is a shower set, there is no diverter involved.
Now you need to get the pause valve (or shower head with same) and fix the leak by either replacing the hose or a washer (gasket) at the end.
You should be in good shape.

Paul I don't know if you ruled out a new faucet or not but I'm sure you can find
a faucet in the marine industry, most big boats I know have that type of faucet
in them. I own a 37 footer and have replaced that faucet.  They are a little spendy
but it is a marine product.

Chris,

Can I ask why you mounted the shower valve with the hose going up? It looks like that's how they are displayed on the vendor's websites too.
