I finally removed the old power brake booster today. To say that it fought tooth & nail would be an understatement. Whoever bolted that thing to the firewall must've had arms the size of my leg. They broke my universal joint from my tool kit first rattle out of the box. I went ahead & got a impact swivel to get it started. The pin that hooks the input rod to the pedal had a cotter pin instead of a clip. Lots of fun in those cramped quarters getting it out. It took a drift, a hammer, & some "Flowery language" to get the pivot pin out, but I finally did. After all the bolts were out, I figured it was smooth sailing. WRONG! The booster was rusted in the hole in the firewall like a wheel stuck on a hub. After using penetrating oil on it, I was able to wiggle it around & eventually it came out. My son who was with me helping got a double education; removing a booster & learning U.S. Navy linguistics... Hehehe. What I found after I got it out & had a good
look at it was that the seal around the output shaft to the master seal is missing. I can only assume it's inside the booster somewhere in pieces. No wonder it couldn't hold vacuum. The new JimB sensitized booster should be here in a few days. I just hope it goes back in easier than it came out.
Also ran the genset & roof A/C for about an hour to make sure they were working OK. I know it really wasn't necessary, but at least one thing worked as advertised, so I ain't complaining...
