G’day,
Would like to get a consensus as to how long it should take to remove and
replace a final drive.
Thanks,

Are you talking about how long it would take some owner, mechanically adept, to do it the first time, or for Manny or one of the Jims to do it?
I know it takes me a fair amount of time to do something like that the first time. Right now I'm swapping lower control arms on the parts transmode with the ones I'm removing from our GMC (to get the newer reinforced arms for the Glacier). By the time I get done I'll be pretty quick at it.

Rob,
Myself and another friend ( Max Pardy ex Buskirk shop manager ) did it
in about 3.5 hours. Not bad for 2 old guys. He had also borrowed the
holding jig that fits on a floor jack.

Rod,
It took me and a friend two days.
We did not know what we were doing.
From that experience I would guess it
should take an experienced mechanic
about one to one and onehalf hour..
You need mucles like superman and you
need to turn the steering either to the right
or lrft. I don't remember which but I think
it was to the right. I also think we ended up puting
the shaft end up first. Not sure about that either.
I have slept since then. I do know it is not a job
I want to try again.

And on a related note: how much shop time would it take somebody skilled like Manny
to replace the oil pan gasket? This involves dropping the FD and tranny and then hoisting
the engine an inch or so. Our engine leaks like a sieve, so we really need to budget
for getting this fixed someday. It'd be nice to have some ballpark idea of what it'll cost.
thanks,
