Well I finally made it home at 1AM Monday morning.

A big thanks needs to go out to the Millers for hosting this fine event.

Lots of people showed up. Some showed up with coaches and some without. The food was plentiful and great.

We adjusted front and rear ride height on multiple coaches. Some were off as much as 3 inches in the rear and 2 inches in the front. We initially set the heights by the book and then fine tuned the adjustments using a set of scales. I think all of them were within 75 pounds side to side when we finished and all heights were less than the 1/4" tolerance.

We replaced one busted pork chop. The replacement was picked up in Indianapolis and delivered to us by another GMCer coming to the rally on Saturday morning. The coach is returning on Tuesday or Wednesday for an alignment at a highly recommended local shop.

We replaced on tie rod end, Fixed one sway bar. We drained and replaced trans fluid on two coaches. I saw the grease gun out and heard it running (air powered) so some of them got greased while on the pit. We replaced one stripped trans drain plug, and worked on the AC system on another.

On Sunday we made one house call to a GMCer whose coach would not start.

It rained on Friday but we had plenty of inside space to work and we could put two coaches concurrently on the pit at one time.

I had a great time, learned a lot, and I am tired.

I know I missed some things we did and I'm sure someone will append things I missed.

If you weren't there, you missed a good informal work rally.

Our photographer (guess who) was a no show. He promised to be there next year.

Good night.

Ken B.

Ken,

Thanks for the report. Sounds like Y'All had a great, greasy time. I'm
gonna make one of those one of these days.

Great. Sounds like more work than last year. I think only one on pit for tank drop. What was total count on coaches there and those with no coach. I was hoping someone took pictures.
Sounds like Byron again received some expert work on his machine.
As soon as they set next year's dates I will try to get it into our trip plans. Teri wants to come so will be a coach trip. Maybe a combined trip to Dayton hamfest.
Thanks for being there with your scales and your giving work spirit.

I'm going to second that big time, Ken.

The Millers are so gracious. I'm amazed at James' knowledge about almost
anything as well as the number of tools on the compound that he can operate
with great dexterity. Nancy goes out of her way to see that everything is OK
and that no one goes away hungry or thirsty (as thought that's a worry).

I truly appreciated Ken's handling of the situation with regard to the pork
chop. Needless to say, the GMC had been chewing on that piece of pig over
the 114,000 miles it has been in place. Because of Ken's quick by delayed
thinking we got a replacement from Blaine's parts bin delivered just in time
for installation. When asked how much he wanted for it, Blaine said to pay
him whatever made me happy. My response was I was hoping to get it for less
since I was rather happy. (BTW, I used to charge for weddings and funerals
at that rate; I always got more for funerals than weddings -- wonder why.)

We did miss a few who made it in the past. Oh well, just more pancakes to
freeze. The sausage was straight from the farm courtesy of Martha's dad and
her dislike for sausage. I only get to eat it at times like this.

Now, to get rid of the oscillating shimmy I still feel. It's every six
seconds at 50 and every four seconds at 70. Under 45 and it ride like a
dream.

We're all appreciative for the Miller's friend that let us use his pit and
tools.

Next year I'll do a better job sweeping the floor.

One more thing. Ken has let is membership in Eastern States lapse. I'm going
to take care of that for him. It's the least I can do for the great effort
he puts forth. Ken, thanks.

I'm going to third that!

Had a great time at the work rally. The Millers are so very gracious to host these rally's and to have access to a pit is awesome. Thank you Miller family!

I would also like to thank Ken for helping me with my ride height adjustment. We found that the rears where over two inches high and the front were between two to three inches low. With Ken's help the adjustment went very smoothly and we got the ride height back into specs. Now it feels like it is planted on the road and no more wondering, even at 70+!

Also I would like to thank Bob B for chasing down o-rings for me for my dash air. Last Friday I replaced the compressor, hoses, dryer, expansion valve and thermo switch. So my second project of the rally was to service to with Duracool. Unfortunley we were not able to get it serviced as we could not get it to hold a vacuum. We pressurized the system with R134 and bubbled checked all the fitting but could not find any leaks. More troubleshooting is needed. Thank Jim(S) for all your efforts! I'll keep you posted on my troubleshooting.

Jon,

If I were you I'd dump the R134 and fill the system with Duracool! It is by
far the most efficient fluid to use in the A/C system.

If you are a member of GMCMI log in; go to the Members Only page and read
the presentation by Emery Stora on air-conditioning.

Hi Rob, Jon didn't load the 134 - I did - only to put some pressure in the system so that we could search for leaks with the soap. I didn't have a nitrogen tank handy; that would have been preferred.

Naturally before charging we would have drawn a vacuum which would have removed any traces of 134 as well as moisture and whatever else was in there.

Duracool was the target refrigerant all along.
