OK this is one area I am not familiar with. In my past engine experiences when it came time to get something cleaned up the friend I worked with (his engines or mine, mostly his as he had a race car) took the pieces away and they came back clean.

So my question is to get an intake manifold cleaned up what am I looking to have done? Hot tank or sand blast or bead blast or something else? I am assuming when I get it off I will be looking to clean burned oil and exhaust deposits as well as general crud, off the intake so it can be checked for cracks and filling the crossover.

If you want to do it yourself. Set the thing out in the sun on a warm day. Use oven cleaner and scrub brushes. Did some cyl. heads and worked great. Wear old clothes and eye protection because it flings off the brushes. Get some cheap long skinny ones for wheels and such. After wrap in plastic and take to the car wash but don't park your truck any where near. Or keep scrubing and rinse with a hose. Secure on saw poneys{horses} so you don't have to bend over. Worked on cyl. heads.,,,PL

Nope - don't want to do it myself. I was looking for an appropriate method to clean up the crudded up intake so when I go around to local garage to ask where I can get it done locally I'll know what to ask for.

Have it boiled at an engine rebuilder. Then sand blasted.
