Apparently there is a person who is misguided and giving out bad info on the aluminum radiator. I can't let these misconceptions go unanswered.
1. Aluminum radiators are throw away. False. They can be repaired if damaged, but damage will not occur if you put a screen in front of the bottom exposed part of the radiator and behind the grill. anyone who is an aluminum welder can repair one. Even JB weld will work in an emergency. Stop leak will work on small damage as well as in a brass one.
2. Aluminum radiator is available by one supplier. False. Jim K stocks them as well as us. As for as replacement, I don't know of anyone else who stocks a new radiator to fit the GMC. The aluminum radiator tube is thicker than a brass and less prone to damage.
3. Cooling Capacity. The aluminum radiator has 35% more cooling capacity and larger and more efficient coolers than the brass one. 4. There are over 300 aluminum radiators in GMCs now. If you want to find out whether they work well, ask anyone who has one installed. Quite a few on the net that has them.
