The Revcon uses the Toro front end all the way out to the rotors. THen they added big wheel adaptors to go from Toro five lug to an eight inch five lug pattern.
In the back they used really wide 16.5" X 12.5 to get the weight on a single tire.
If i convert the front to GMC by changing rotors, hubs, etc. what wheel options does that give me?
Does the GMC use a common pattern?
I'm thinking the best option for the rear is to change the hub, perhaps by attaching a new axle, maybe from full float one ton rear end.
But I think a full understanding of what was done on the GMC would be helpful.
Does anyone know the difference in width between the GMC and the Toro?

pattern.
THE GMC USES A UNIQUE EIGHT LUG HUB.
In the back they used really wide 16.5" X 12.5 to get the weight on a
single tire.
If i convert the front to GMC by changing rotors, hubs, etc. what wheel
options does that give me? Does the GMC use a common pattern?
THE GMC USES 16" X 6" WHEELS. HERES SOME OPTIONS, CLICK ON THE LINK FOR JIM
K'S STORE AND THEN CLICK ON WHEELS & ACCESSORIES.
http://www.appliedgmc.com/
YOU CAN ALSO USE 16 INCH STEEL WHEELS FROM A CHEVY DUALLY. HOWEVER, THEY
HAVE TO HAVE A DOMED CENTER LIKE THESE FIRESTONE WHEELS:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/showphoto.php?photo=33286
IIRC THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF EMAILS DISCUSSING OTHER WHEELS BUT SINCE BOTH
MY GMC'S HAVE ALCOA WHEELS I HAVEN'T REALLY PAID ATTENTION.
I'm thinking the best option for the rear is to change the hub, perhaps by
attaching a new axle, maybe from full float one ton rear end.
WOULDN'T HAVE A CLUE, GMC'S DON'T HAVE "REAR ENDS"
But I think a full understanding of what was done on the GMC would be
helpful.
I THINK THE ONLY WAY YOU'RE GOING TO ACCOMPLISH THAT IS BY GETTING A GMC
MANUAL AND PARTS BOOK.

130392348862 GMC PARTS BOOK ON EBAY - $9.99 STARTING BID

Does anyone know the difference in width between the GMC and the Toro?
SORRY I DON'T.

"THE GMC USES A UNIQUE EIGHT LUG HUB."
How unique? Is that a common 8 lug pattern, or somehting special?
Do other truck rims work?
The goal is to get somehting that is fairly common and doesn't rely on adaptors.

Dave,
The GMC design started out with the complete Toro design. Then,
as it got heavier, they needed
more beef. So they make a new hub that fit the other Toro parts,
but used a 2-ton truck wheel.
The brake rotor is the same except for the bolt pattern and
center hole. Easily changed.
The hub IS unique to the GMCMH, so you need two of those, and a
couple of truck wheels.
I haven't got a clue on your rears.

Dave,
The GMC hub has a very common 8 on 6-1/2" bolt pattern. Most 3/4 and 1-ton trucks have used this pattern for years. The most notable exception is the later model Ford which has an eight lug metric pattern. I would think there would be a lot of wheel options for your application, with the limiting factor being brake component clearance.

Thats what i thought. So the logical path would be to make the front like a GMC by changing hubs and rotors and then convert the rear with some compatible axle.
Anyone know the weight rating of a SINGLE rear spindle? I need about 3000 lb. (on each side)
The issue in front is keeping a 30 inch clearance in the wheel well.

For the front:
If your front suspension is a Toro front end with spacers, you should be able to use GMC parts... but if you are going to do that... Why not use the same parts as are used on the "Bill Hubler Heavy Duty Front End Kit."
<http://www.appliedgmc.com/prod.itml/icOid/635>
I understand it is based on the front end of a 1 or 2 ton 4 wheel drive truck. You'll end up with: Modern wheel bearings, larger brakes and more common wheels.
For the rear: Maybe spindles from the front of a similar truck, just a 2 wheel drive? Keep in mind, for the most part, us GMC'ers do not know much about the rear of you coach.

This may be a silly question, but if one uses the spacers to increase the front track width, does that allow a wider selection of wheels to fit (ie does the spacer compensate for the brake caliper clearance issue in front)? I understand there are many wheels that could work, but the domed centers are necessary in the stock configuration.

I am very careful to confine my questions to things common to both coaches. I'll figure out the rear end myself. But i can do just about anything on the rear so whatever i decide will be driven by whatever works best on the front.

i would think you could have an adapter made for the rear to make it match whatever you put on the front.

Dave,
You can also have your hubs drilled for the GMC 8 lug patter. this
seems the easiest. I believe the Revcon control arms are superior to
the GMC units so I wouldn't do anything that would require changine
them to GMC units.

You're gonna' get me in trouble using the words "superior" and "REVCON" in the same sentence on this board.
But i don't think they are. I think the control arms are just slightly improved over Toro Stock.
However, if you have any revcon specific knowledge please share it.
The next question is; how do i get more weight on the rear wheel with the same bolt pattern?
The 16" rims don't seem to take enough weight, unless i get Alcoas. Maybe a 17" with the same bolt pattern?
Different sizes would be tolerable- maybe use the smaller size as a spare with a 16" load range G trailer tire on it?
If it made sense to make a custom hub in front then i would probably go with Fords metric pattern as there seem to be a lot more wheel options for Ford.
