Going tomorrow to get the engine & transmission/final drive from a 75 Eldorado. Plan on getting that as a unit. Will get the knuckles if there's time. What about the CV joints, upper A-arms, Lower A-arms, torsion bars, pork chops, etc? What are they really worth? This mob is in Houston and they charge for everything ala carte. Went to one in Knoxville last month and their prices are 1/2 to 1/3 of what they are here. And the facilities are much nicer in the Volunteer State. BTW this vehicle has 4 wheel disc brakes with a vacuum booster. The 78 I saw had hydro-boost.

Ask to buy the whole front clip. you'll most likely get a better deal. Let 'em keep the sheetmetal.

Grab those knucles John,
The upper and lower control arms would sure be nice to have also.
Pork chops are not in much demand considering the amount of labor to
remove. The CV joints are good for cores. Cutting the front clip off
the car is a good idea. Torch the torsion bars as they are different
from the GMC.

With a little thought, the frame clip could be made into a trailer to bring it all home.
A "fixed" towbar, remove the axles and put "stubs" (or bolts) in the the front hubs, jury rug the shocks to hold the suspension up. That sort of thing.
I often come up with ideas.... never said they where GOOD ideas!

I don't think anyone has mentioned this so, don't forget the Right side stub axle and bracket. it is unique to the BB cadillac engines. Also make sure the exhaust manifolds come with it. Often yards will disconnect the manifold as a way of easily getting the motor out without doing any cutting, The Carb on that 75 is likely a "altitude compensating carb. Make sure it is there, Get all of the brackets for alternator, AC, PS, etc. That single pulley system is a good one. Maybe just make sure the alt, AC, and PS are with the engine.
You might read this over before you go:

Humm...I think the steering column might be useful also...not sure about that one.

Steve: I got the air cleaner. Sorry Larry someone already got the carb. and trashed the steering column. If I use the engine, I'll be running fuel injection anyway.

Jim, Got the engine/trans/final drive yesterday. Got cut short on time so I'm going back for the knuckles etc and will see about getting the hardware/software from the torsion bar cross-member.

If you are going to install the Cad into a non HEI GMC grab the connectoer running to the dist.,,,,,,I was able to get a whole 72 eldo for only 300. 8 miles from home. I saved the whole exhaust system to run the engine in the shop.{front clip pulled on the GMC.} Didn't fit too well because the eldo ex. went above the frame and the GMC below.
Also, I found about 1/2 inch of SLUDGE in the pan THAT WOULD NOT DRAIN!!!I put the motor on my engine stand{and bent it,diffrent story} pulled the cork and let it drain for 2-3 days. When I removed the pan,1/2 to 3/4 inch of sludge. I would pull the pan, clean, paint and install a new gasket.JWID,,,PL

I didn't do as well. I spent more than that on the front-end parts I got yesterday. Boy, buying parts ala carte is pricey. I'll probably never be able to sell them for what I paid for them. That's about par for me anyway. Just hope I won't need them anytime soon.
