We left Friday afternoon from home in San Jose to Fresno State for the
GMC 49ers May rally.
Got down the hill, went by the post office and gas station to fill up
with diesel.
Drove south on 101 to Gilroy, then took 152 east to 99 south to Fresno.
Doing 62-65 and maintaining that speed, mostly slow lane driving but
occasionally passing a truck or two.
My cruise control is not working yet, so it sucks.
Climbed the 152 Pacheco pass in second gear at a steady 32mph.
Once in the valley, at 65, engine was reving 1800 rpms, tranny temp
140 degrees, final drive the same at 140. Water temp around 200/205.
We arrived at Fresno State around 4:30 pm, around three hours after we
left home.
Had a great time at the school with the 49er gang. Our son graduated
from Fresno State so he paid us a visit Friday night and Saturday
morning.
This morning we left Fresno State at 9:30am, just after breakfast and
arrived home at 12:30pm.
For the third time, I had to use my van to pull the motorhome up to
the driveway.
My wife drove the coach while I drove the van.
Eventually I’m hoping that the motorhome will make on its own.

Manny, After reading about your 4BT swap and poking around on the web about 4BT's you did a cool deal. What a project.

How did it pull going back west? That is a tuff climb.
Why not try one of the limited slips to see if you can get up your driveway Manny? I never thought your driveway was that tough.

Coming back was easier. Its not s straight incline,
Its got nothing to do with slipping. I love my 3.21 final drive. I
just don't have the throttle response that I had with the gas engine,
but I'm working on it.

Hey;

This all sounds good, and and I'm glad you made it home, and I
think the timing trick is really going to help, but the real question
that no-one has asked yet is.......what kind of mileage did you get.
MPG man! Give us a tickle...

Sounds like you need a banks Stinger kit Manny, but knowing you,
you're ahead of me on this.

Gary, I kept re reading Manny's post to see that 16 mpg. thought I had just missed it. He did not post it. So, Manny, give us the numbers.

Manny,
Since that motor is a low RPM torque producer, is it possible that a 1200 rpm torque converter might help things?...like climbing your hill?
Just wondering...

Its not the converter. My converter stalls at 1400rpms. Its the
engine. I need a few more horsepower.
I'm not alone at not making up my hill.

Just curious, what kind of turbo is on the BT4? A better turbo might net the extra power you seek... And were all curious if u got any milage data on the beast?

Let me put it this way; tank still shows full.
We're leaving tomorrow for the western states roundup, Maybe I'll fill
the tank after we come home.
For the next 1000 miles, its the testing range.

George,
What Deo likes most is that our son came back to our area and is
living one and a quarter miles from us.

if it still shows full after 6 hours of driving, this may become the new favort swap of a lot of GMC'ers! I met a guy with a 35" crown bus conversion which gets 22 mpg over the road, so the potential is definately there!

you think you will be able to get some video of the drive out there? would love to hear how it sounds at highway speed Smile
