Byron,

Did the Equal you purchased come with filtered Schrader valve cores and if
yes was Big-O able to install them in your tire stems?

If yes could you please examine your tire stems and advise everything that
is marked on them.

The reason I ask is because I have tire stems marked as follows:

TR-543
Ventrex
Made in Austria (no Kangaroos!) ;-)

And the filtered Schrader valve cores won't fit.

John Sharpe and I are doing some research into this.

There are four different valve stems that will fit the Alcoa or Eagle
wheels:

O-ring seal
TR-543
TR-543C (bent at a 45° angle)

Grommet seal
TR-553
TR-553C (bent at a 45° angle)

John has obtained a TR-553C and the filtered core will fit, however, it is
brass and not nickel plated so we’re leery of installing it due to
dissimilar metal corrosion problems.

He’s called Jim K who is sending him one of the nickel plated valve stems he
sells for Alcoa wheels to see if the filtered valve stems will fit.

I realize that you can still air up unfiltered Schrader valves BUT if you
want to install a tire pressure monitoring system the fact that the Equal
can get into the stems could cause false readings.

Then I read the discussion about Equal. Bought some. Returned to Big-O and
said to put it in. No problem, we know what we're doing.
