Has anyone done a paint job at Topica graphics lately? How much did it cost?

Larry, Mine is in there now and was told $4500-$5000. Larry B says most GMC's run in that range. He said my paint scheme was less (4 color pearl and metallics)but there's more cosmetic repairs and they about average out. They are suppose to call if it will go over $.

John,
What kind of prep did you do before bringing it to them? How long will they have it?
Thanks

john, I stopped by and visited with Larry Friday, @ Topeka Graphics. I was checking on your coach. He indicated you did not want it back til Sept. I figured you were picking it up for the rally in Du Quoin.
Larry, you have to do no pre paint work unless you want to. I would suggest you don't. They are too reasonable for us to mess with anything, in my thinking. You will need to call them and visit with Larry about what you want and he will give you a price based on what you tell him. You can email him pictures of any body work that needs done so he can figure that in.
Very accomodating. If you set it up right you will get it back in 3-4 weeks. If you tell them you are in no hurry, that is not good, from my experience.

Our coach was the first one on which Larry went to extra efforts to smooth
the transition between colors by rubbing them out before the final clear
coat. He may do that by standard procedure now, not sure. It costs about
$100 extra, but is SO worth it! Be sure to have him do that to your coaches
if that is not part of his standard procedure. It was not at that time. He
missed one short color transition on the T-skirt, and it feels like a
mountain when you rub the tips of your fingers over it, when compared to the
rest of the coach.

Also....Carol and I live a short distance from Topeka graphics. When in the
area, we would love to see you. We have two empty nests upstairs, a warm
shower, and if you have ever seen me, you have to know Carol is an excellent
cook{:>) We have a beautiful lake at the front of the house, and a great
place to park your GMC across the road if you have your coach with you.

Larry, Dan's right. Don't bother with any prep. I did take the ac's off. You might want to remove anything you will not want to be put back on after paint. Loose parts are fine and Larry said they remove the headlight bezels and grille to be painted separate. Ken also recommends that you let them do all the work including caulking. Removing the bumpers etc could save a few bucks, but I have a feeling it would not be significant.

Dan, I don't disagree that it's better to get it in and out. However, avoiding and extra 1600 dead head miles seemed a better option for me.

I did most of my own prep work, spent a year on it, before taking the coach to Topeka Graphics for a base coat, 5-color patterned top coat, double sanded clear coat . I saved close to 2 grand by doing my own prep.

Hi Larry,

Topeka has painted 3 GMCs in our extended family and our experience with Larry at Topeka has been excellent! VERY fair pricing and a genuinely humble owner make me recommend them to anyone. I read that someone took the A/C covers off, but Topeka removed ours and painted them (at our request) along with the pod on all three. Just a thought unless one prefers keeping the covers factory white.

What about windows? I may replace my windows, but not sure if I will do it before or after. (Probably before, and only the front two.)

Does he paint the frames black, or should that be done before.

What about the seam caps at the top? My rear left side was leaking, has some temp caulk in it for now...

Seems they do everything.

Chris,

They painted our window frames a nice gloss black. I'm pretty sure they DIDN'T re-seal the seams (we didn't ask), but we've found if you specifically request anything from them, they will do it. My brother's coach was painted most recently and Larry provided "update" digital photos in emails as they progressed. I believe it was three weeks or so to complete.

John, I know why you left it for a while. Good thinking on your part. He will email you pictures if you want him to.
Chris, I would do the windows before but they will paint the frames and putty the caps.
As yall know, they painted my Vdub. I have to say they are the friendliest body shop owners I have ever dealt with. Teri was not happy that there was no black on the hood, when they were finished. Larry said, "give me one more day and it will be there". No change in price. They are very fair and want you happy. I enjoy just visiting with them. That couple would make great GMC owners.

Re-sealing the seams is part of their process. They request that they do it, not you, and they do it to every coach they paint.

Chris, well spent money. For just a little more, you can hire and old guy, me, to drive it both ways for you. Very Happy

Sounds like they are the unofficial body shop of gmc.net. Looks like they do good work too. Too bad they are 2100 miles from me...

I would not call them the "official" GMC painters. They have been doing it for a while and are very familiar with our coach. Larry told me he has done over 200 GMCs. Times are harder now and buisness is slower. We can get in and out much faster and for less money.

Yea, but the RV business is picking up noticeably around here, so sooner is
probably better than later. He does a lot of the big fully painted RV's.
I'll bet he is one of the biggest users of paint a supplier could wish for!
