I have been a lurker on the net for many years and thank all for the great
info. I am thinking of removing the 400 pound Onan and replacing it with
small portable Ramsond 3500. Has anyone done this and are there any issues.

I ran a Champion 3500W generator on a Hitch Haul platform out behind the coach and ran the shore cable to it. A little noisy, but it did the job well.

I wouldn't try sticking it inside the compartment, though.

Like this?
Ebay Item number: 180483903201

LOOKS small enough to fit in the gen compartment of a 23 foot.

Cooling air flow might be a problem.

Let us know how it works out.

wow what a nice posting

at 60 lb, and electric start, it sure beats 400 lb Onan. (6000 watts)

*
be sure to let us know how it works
my 2kw is good for the total GMC without the AC. This should get it all
done

Hey! I bought the same Champion 3500W generator for my 23 foot coach... if you cut the steel bars of the top, it fits inside the existing generator compartment. It is extremely affordable, and I've had no problems with it yet. Only about 50 hours though...

I do not run the generator inside the compartment... I take it out first. Not sure if it would get too hot in the compartment

Here is ebay listing of Ramsond generator--

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180483903201&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.ebay.com%3A80%2F%3F_from%3DR40%26_npmv%3D3%26_trksid%3Dp3 910.m38.l1313%26_nkw%3D180483903201%26_sacat%3DSee-All-Categories%26_fvi%3D1&_rdc=1

Looks interesting. I think this would fit inside the box of 23 footer without any problems.

Thanks everyone for your help re the onboard generator. I decided to go for
the Champion 4000 which is less money than the Ramsond or the Kipor. Looks
like it will just fit. I will let you know how it goes. Will soon have an
Onan 6000 for sale very cheap. It runs.
