Depending on the paint a good quality brush and a steady hand should
produce spray-like results. I watched a father-son team brush paiting a
Mopsie, day fisher using Sterling. From where I was sitting on my boat I
had a good view of both painters. One was brush up and down on his side
while the other was brushing back and forth. I was curious as to what the
final result would be when they met at the fly bridge. You would never
know they used brushes. Sterling is one of those amazing paint products
(around $250/gallon as I recall)
I wouldn't hesitate to brush on the paint just to get the color
variations possible. If the head doesn't turn out as smooth as the boat,
only a few will use it and only one or two will notice it. (The painter
and his spouse!)
