Gene,
I gotta tell you, I never thought you'd become as over-enthused about
something as you've been about that funny Harbor Freight oscillating
cutter/sander. I'm sorry, but it just doesn't seem likely to me that any
tool can be THAT great -- certainly not at that price nor from HF.
On another topic: SHE has always been a great saver, frugal, and
non-demanding. Even since we moved to Americus 5 years ago, into a house
built in '76, she hasn't demanded any upgrades or redecoration -- it is,
after all a pretty nice place, built by folks who could afford to do things
right -- and could have even bought a new GMC at the same time. But since
the Cad500 conversion, some other creature, let's call her $$$ has moved in
here. Somehow I think this may indicate that SHE didn't fully accept my
contention that I HAD to replace the 18,000 mile 455 with the Cad500. And
the statement that "I don't want to hear any more comments about the daily
UPS shipments" may not have been the most diplomatic thing I've ever said.
At any rate, $$$ has displaced my HER and now I'm suffering from it: Last
Tuesday a big KraftMaid van pulled up here and offloaded 47 boxes of various
sizes, up to 2'x4'x3'. And the credit card bill came, with MANY, MANY GMC
(like buy Steve F.'s GMC MANY) units charged to it by Lowes'. And on
Wednesday, another truck pulled up with a BIG new refrigerator, a stove, a
convection microwave, etc., etc. Then on Friday my son-in-law, a budding
small time building contractor, showed up and announced that he was here to
help me remove the old kitchen cabinets and install the new ones.
Well, as I usually did for HER, I followed $$$'s orders and worked ever
since then ripping out everything in the kitchen, replacing the dishwasher
destroyed underlayment in that area, re-routing electrical wiring, etc.,
etc., etc. Now most of the cabinets are installed, the Corian guy's been
here to make templates, and $$$'s floor covering nephew has ordered new
carpet for delivery next week. And I'm still busy with installing under
counter lights and other onerous tasks.
Now back to Gene: Darned if you're not right!!! That crazy HF bone-saw
gadget has proven to be the handiest of my 50 power tools for this project!
Cuts that would have been a real PITA and have come out ragged & jagged and
'most any size were quick, easy, and accurate. Even cutting 1/4" off of the
door casing to mate with $$$'s too-wide cabinets wasn't a particularly
difficult job and only a little caulk will be needed to fill the crack
(fortunately behind the always-open door). Cutting passages for the under
counter wiring was a snap rather than a chore.
Sure am glad I decided during my last HF trip to buy the Magic Tool, as I
now call it, just so I could determine exactly how wildly Gene was
exaggerating.

I'm glad to hear that. I bought one a few months ago and haven't tried it yet. I'll have to look around for an excuse to use it.

I bought one when they first went on "sale" price. Great tool, the newer model has improved the method of attaching blades, but as long as the original works, I'm happy.

My wife bought one of those to refinish the windows in the family room. works great, but the velcro on the sander is not the greatest.
